TNA Press Conference Live Coverage: Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan address TNA Impact moving to Monday nights to go head-to-head with WWE Raw
Feb 15, 2010 - 02:00 PM

The following is ongoing coverage of the TNA press conference held on Feb. 15 to announce that TNA Impact is moving to Monday nights beginning March 8.

-A video of the TNA logo was shown a couple times prior to the actual press conference.

-Mike Tenay opened the press conference from inside the Impact Zone about 14 minutes after it was scheduled to start. Tenay was standing at a podium on the entrance ramp and introduced TNA President Dixie Carter.

-Carter walked through the wrestler entrance as the TNA Impact theme song played. She said no one expected them to last six months, let alone become a global company. She said they took that another step on January 4 when they made the decision to move Impact to January 4 live. She said it was a successful move and that the "ratings were wonderful for our company." Carter said Spike TV officials saw the potential.

-Dixie officially announced that TNA Impact is moving to Mondays beginning March 8 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

-Carter recalled Hulk Hogan joining the company and saying that it needed just a little bit of "rocket fuel." She said it was her pleasure to introduce "the pop icon" Hulk Hogan.

-Hogan made his entrance as his NWO-style entrance music played. Hogan said he's been around the block a few times and he had no idea that such amazing things would happen so quickly. "It's game time," Hogan said. "Game on. We're getting momentum each and every taping and each and every day when we have our meetings."

-Hogan said it's an honor to work for TNA. He said this moment was bigger than any wrestling moment in his career. He said they are making history. "Things from this day forward are going to change like they've never changed before," Hogan said. He said the "barbaric wrestling mentality" is gone. He said everyone is committed and it makes him feel young again.

-Hogan thanked Dixie and also thanked her father Bob Carter, who is in Texas. Hogan said it's not a Hulk Hogan thing. "It's not me," he said. "This company has a foundation that is unselfish" and giving like no company he's been part of. "It's one team and it's one vibration going forward, and it's all positive," Hogan said.

-Dixie opened it up to questions for the media. The first person asked how long this has been in the works. She said it's been in the works forever. She said they would be live on March 8 and will be taping some other shows.

-The second person (sounded like Brian Fritz of BetweeTheRopes.com) asked why they opted to go directly head-to-head rather than start an hour before Raw. Dixie said they had the option to go either way. She said they could tweak it going forward. Hogan said that as a wrestler, he would want to go head-to-head with the competition. "For me, that would be the only option," Hogan said.

-Hogan said there might be reasons to switch the time slot around going forward, but the wrestlers like the fight.

-Another media member asked Hogan about going head-to-head with WWE in the past. Hogan said WCW was dominant within six months. He said he doesn't think the same outcome will happen here. He said they will win the war, but it's not a competition anymore. "This company has a better product," Hogan said. "This company has better talent." Hogan said TNA is better at everything they do. He said they won't repeat history, they intend to make history.

-Carter said a war is generally fought over a long period of time. She said her goal is to produce the best show they can. She said they previously targeted their competition's third show (ECW) and surpassed it on a regular basis.

-Another media person asked if there were any plans to make Impact a three-hour show. Carter said there were discussions about adding additional TNA programming on Spike TV, but not about making Impact a three-hour show.

-They were asked what type of reaction they expect to get from WWE and Vince McMahon. Hogan said they don't acknowledge the other company exists. "What I do know on the inside if you want to get the scoop is that the talent is cheering us on," Hogan said. He added that TNA gives the talent an option. He said WWE may not acknowledge TNA, but the corporate types are scrambling. "That's the scoop," Hogan said.

-Carter said the real winners are the wrestling fans. She said they are having fun doing what they're doing and she wants the fans to see and feel that. "How cool would it be for them to feel that?" Carter asked. She said she wants fans to be proud to be a wrestling fan again.

-Tenay started to wrap it up, but Hogan cut him off. Hogan compared working in TNA to going to a church that people love going to. He said working for past companies it felt like going to work was the longest day of his life. He said that's not the case with TNA. "These guys are working so hard here," Hogan said. "There's this energy and attitude about being here." He said he doesn't even know what to predict as far as ratings marks, etc. because things are happening so fast.

-Tenay closed the press conference and stressed again that TNA Impact is moving to Mondays on March 8.
