Pre-Show

Jeremy Borash introduced the show from inside the studio and ran through the pay-per-view lineup... A video showcased the main event...

Powell's POV: I hate to be negative right off the bat, but I must say that I'm not a fan of all the "ultimate sacrifice" talk when we'll be honoring the men and women who really did make the ultimate sacrifice for their country on Memorial Day.

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Dr. Stevie and Daffney. Lauren grumbled about Steve's methods. He took the mic from her and spoke about how Abyss would take a big step forward in his therapy by being in Daffney's corner. Lauren said Stevie is just looking for another client...

James Earl Jones guy narrated a video... Borash spoke about the pay-per-view at ringside again...

1. Amazing Red pinned Kiyoshi in 7:00. Mike Tenay and Don West checked in on commentary from ringside. The announcers wisely discussed the pay-per-view main event before the match. Red hit a great twisting dive over the top rope onto Kiyoshi at ringside. West claimed he sat down and spoke with Kiyoshi for a couple hours earlier in the day. "What?!?" Tenay responded. Funny.

Kiyoshi took control of the offense and scored some decent heat from the live crowd. The crowd rallied behind Red with "Let's go Red" chants. He pleased them by hitting a wild tornado DDT, which drew more "Red" chants. At 5:45, Red hit a leg lariat for a near fall. Kiyoshi came back with a Torture Rack into a powerbomb for a nearfall. In the end, Kiyoshi missed a moonsault, and Red hit a DDT and a standing moonsault for the win...

Powell's POV: Good match that should get people who watched the free preview excited about the show. The announcers did a nice job of balancing their focus when it came to calling the match and selling the pay-per-view. I wish they would have done more to put over the match afterward, though, as they just cut to another video package and didn't show highlights.

Another Sacrifice vide aired... At ringside, Borash and Lauren discussed the pay-per-view... A video hyped the A.J. Styles vs. Booker T match... Borash hyped the pay-per-view main event at ringside. He stumbled over his words a couple times and appeared to get lost. Live TV. Gotta love it... A video hyped the Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Nash match...

Powell's POV: It's amazing that the Joe vs. Nash match means so little when they spent months building up to it. Nash got hurt and the company seemed to lose interest in their feud. Maybe tonight will get it back on track...

Backstage, Lauren interviewed Nash, who said Joe has been red hot lately. He said he has his hands full. "I grew up in Detroit," Nash said. "You kick my ass on Tuesday and I'll be there on Wednesday." He added that he's been wrestling for 21 years and was beating ass in bars since he was 18. Nash said their feud will be over when he says it's over...

A video hyped the finals of the TNA tag tournament... Borash delivered a final pitch for the pay-per-view and turned it over to the announcers, who ran through the lineup one more time... With two minutes left in the countdown, Borash played to the live crowd. He said the Impact Zone is the loudest building in wrestling and would come unglued during the pay-per-view... A video hyped the PPV main event to conclude the free preview...

TNA Sacrifice PPV

The actual pay-per-view kicked off with various shots of the four main event competitors arriving earlier in the day. Foley arrived in a beat up older car. Funny. He was talking to an attendant, but it was hard to hear him because Tenay and West never stopped talking... A video hyped the main event...

1. Eric Young and Lethal Consequences defeated The Motor City Machine Guns and Sheik Abdul Bashir in 13:45. West tried to explain the awkward Guns and Bashir partnership by saying Bashir has the right to deliver his message "and the Guns have picked up on that."

At 5:00, Shelley jumped off the ring apron toward Creed, who was standing at ringside, and slammed his knee into Creed's head. Cool move. The heels took turns working over Creed. Eventually, Creed fought away from all three heels and tagged in Lethal.

West noted that Young had yet to tag into the match. He said there were rumors that Young had upset a lot of people in TNA lately and suspected that his partners no longer trusted him. Of course, Young checked in seconds later by performing a double team move. Tenay covered it nicely by asking West, "Are you happy?"

All six wrestlers entered the match and West asked if they were wrestling under Memphis rules. Young continued to help out his tag partners. The Guns took turns working over Lethal with slide kicks in the corner. Bashir hit a top rope splash on Young. Later, Young hit a double Death Valley Driver on the Guns for a big pop.

Seconds later, Lethal tried to roll up Bashir, who grabbed the ropes. The referee kicked Bashir's hands free and he was rolled up for the pin. West bitched about the ref getting involved. The announcers pointed out that Young didn't look pleased with the way his team won the match...

Powell's POV: Lots of action during the match. Train wreck style opener.

The announcers ran through the pay-per-view lineup for 7,000th time in an hour...

The announcers introduced video footage of Red, Creed, Machismo, and another wrestlers shaking hands with Sting. The announcers questioned whether they were also saying goodbye...

Powell's POV: Damn those disrespectful TNA Originals!

A video hyped the Monster's Ball concept and noted that it was the first time that two Knockouts would compete in this style of a match...

2. Taylor Wilde defeated Daffney (w/Abyss, Stevie Richards) in a Monster's Ball match in 3:35. Stevie barked orders to Daffney from ringside. There were hockey sticks, a crutch, a trash can, signs, etc. West said Daffney reminds him of his first wife. Nice. Taylor put the trash can over Daffney's head and slammed the stick into it.

In the end, Taylor hit a painful looking DVD onto a trash can and then pinned Daffney. Afterward, Stevie entered the ring and bickered with Taylor. Daffney recovered and attacked Taylor from behind. Stevie rolled up his sleeves. Daffney picked up a kendo stick, but Stevie waved it off. He picked up a crutch and he waved it off again.

Stevie picked up a bag of tacks and spread them in the ring. Abyss shook his head no at ringside. Stevie called for Abyss to join him in the ring. He motioned for Abyss to chokeslam Taylor onto the tacks. Stevie slapped Abyss a couple times and then removed his belt.

Abyss complied by grabbing Taylor and picking her up for a chokeslam. Lauren ran out to stop Abyss. Stevie shoved Lauren to the mat. Abyss got pissed and chokeslammed Stevie onto the tacks. "Well, that just set the therapy back another six months," West said. Blood seeped out of the back of Stevie's white shirt...

Powell's POV: Please let this be the last of the Abyss therapy sessions. The match was quick and painless. Well, except for the finish.

A Jeff Jarrett video aired... Backstage, Borash said he had exclusive news just for the Sacrifice viewers. He said three big names will appear on Impact that people wouldn't expect. He said two were former World Champions, and another is a new Knockout. He said PPV buyers could find out the names of those performers by signing up for TNA mobile updates.

Borash interviewed Jarrett, who said it all comes down to the Sacrifice main event. He said everything he's worked for his entire life could be gone by the end of the night. He said the only option was to make sure that the belt is taken away from Mick Foley...

A video hyped the Suicide vs. Daniels match...

3. Suicide fought Daniels to a draw in an X Division Title match. Daniels made his entrance and then the lights went out. When they came back on, Suicide was standing in the ring behind Daniels. During the match, West said he has some questions regarding Curry Man, but said that's for another day. Funny.

West said it was interesting to watch the crowd because they didn't know who to cheer for. He said they wanted to cheer for Daniels, but they didn't know whether they should cheer for Suicide since that could be Daniels under the mask. Yes, he really said that. Funny again.

There was an awkward moment around 9:00 when Daniels was unable to reverse piledriver spot as appeared to be the plan. The announcers covered it nicely by saying they were just jockeying for position. Daniels and Suicide fought to ringside and they both returned in time to break the 10-count.

Later, the Machine Guns headed to ringside. Chris Sabin distracted the referee while Alex Shelley hit a move on Suicide. After Shelley left, Daniels headed back into the ring and rolled up Suicide for the win. West's conspiracy theory was that Daniels won the match because he's actually Suicide.

After the match, Daniels said that as bad as he wants to be champion again, he didn't want to win the belt that way. He asked the referee to re-start the match. The ref complied and gave them five minutes of overtime, so Daniels was not the champion. West asked Tenay what would happen if the five-minute overtime session ended without a pin. Tenay said Suicide would keep the title.

Late in the overtime, Daniels hit his finisher for a near fall. Suicide came back with a move, but the time limit expired. The ring announcer stated that Suicide retained the title because it was a draw. Tenay asked West what his conspiracy theory was. He said Suicide clearly double crossed Daniels...

Powell's POV: Not as good as I expected it to be and definitely overbooked. Neither character seems over enough to work against a fellow babyface. The crowd just wasn't passionate about the match. West was funny during the match, yet he also distracted from the action. His conspiracy theories would be funnier if the actual story line wasn't awkward and hard to follow.

An Awesome Kong video aired...

4. Angelina Love beat Awesome Kong (w/Raisha Saeed) to retain the TNA Knockouts Title in 6:00. Kong dominated the early action. She flung Love into the guardrail at ringside. West pointed out that Love was smart enough to put her hands up and cover her head to absorb some of the blow. Love came back and rammed Kong into the ring post. She raced back inside the ring and told the ref to count out Kong, but Kong returned to the ring quickly.

Love tried to leave the ring and head backstage, but she backed into Saeed, who was waiting for her. Back inside the ring, Kong went for a second rope splash, but Love avoided the move. Love grabbed the spray she's been using. Saeed tried to take it away. Kong charged at Love, who moved, causing Kong to bump into her own manager. Love sprayed the substance into Kong's eyes and then pinned her.

Afterward, Kong destroyed Love and left her lying with the Implant Buster. Love tried to crawl away, but Kong dragged her back and hit another Implant Buster. "First the right and then the left," Tenay said regarding Love's, well, implants. Funny...

Powell's POV: Nice to see Love get the win and keep the title. I was actually hoping they'd find a way to get her out of the ring before Kong destroyed her afterward to keep the fans waiting to see Kong get her revenge.

A video hyped Sting putting his career on the line in the main event... Backstage, Borash interviewed Sting, who said it's inevitable that TNA fans will see him wrestle his last match, but he doesn't expect it will be tonight... A Samoa Joe video aired...

5. Samoa Joe defeated Kevin Nash in 8:00. Joe came out wearing the Taz towel over his head again. The announcers brought up that Joe has a mystery adviser. They fought to ringside early and traded offense. Nash swung a chair at Joe and missed. Joe got the chair and didn't miss when he swung it at Nash. He also rammed Nash into the ring steps. Nash bladed.

Later, Nash fired punches at Joe, who came back with a kick to the gut and a senton splash. Joe made the throat slash motion and then locked in the Kokina Clutch. Nash tapped out and Joe won the match clean. Afterward, Joe shoved the ref aside and locked his finisher in on Nash again.

Security ran out and pulled Joe off. Joe threw punches at security and ran them off. Joe climbed back on top of Nash and threw repeated punches to his head. Joe left the ring. Scott Steiner came out and checked on Nash,..

Powell's POV: Wow, it was good to see Joe win a match over one of the veterans of the company. I just assumed Joe would get disqualified 90 seconds in again.

Another video aired on something, but I ignored it because I'm bored with the videos (like I am during most wrestling PPVs)... Backstage, Lauren interviewed Team 3D about the finals of their tag team tournament. They put over Beer Money, but bitched about the British Invasion jumping them to make a name for themselves. Brother Ray said he hopes Beer Money "kicks their royal, British asses"...

Tenay ran through the brackets of the tournament... Team 3D came out and walked past the big Team 3D trophy that will be awarded to the winner (and inevitably slammed over someone's head). They joined the announcers on commentary...

6. Beer Money defeated The British Invasion (w/Rob Terry) in the Team 3D tournament final in 10:30. Beer Money received more cheers than boos. After spending weeks talking about how serious they are, Storm was back to riding the beer cooler to ringside. The Invasion had good heat, and the fans rooted for Beer Money. They played to those cheers with some funny spots, particularly when Roode poured beer into Storm's mouth in a Popeye spot.

Meanwhile, West agreed with everything Team 3D said on commentary. Ray talked about the Crocket Cup and the All Japan tag tournament, and said how great it was to work for a company that cares about tag team wrestling. After spending the bulk of the match selling, Storm made the hot tag to Roode at 7:30.

A short time later, Beer Money had the win, but Terry reached in and pulled referee Earl Hebner out to break up the count. Hebner ordered Terry to leave ringside and he complied. The Invasion brought the Money in the Bank, er, Feast or Fired briefcase inside the ring, but Beer Money took it away and used it as a weapon. Roode hit Williams with it and scored the clean pin for his team.

Afterward, Team 3D shook hands with Beer Money and raised their hands. Tenay said Team 3D would present the trophy to Beer Money on Thursday's Impact...

Powell's POV: Fun match. I always figured the beer gags would get over nicely if Beer Money ever turned babyface. I hope it's not permanent, though, as I still dig those two as a heel team. The British Invasion had more heat than anyone on the show so far.

Backstage, Borash interviewed Angle while the Mafia security stood by. Angle said it's time for the Mafia to start dominating TNA again... A video hyped the Booker T vs. A.J. Styles match...

7. A.J. Styles beat Booker T in an "I Quit" match to retain TNA Legends Title in 17:00. No Sharmell to start the match. West tried to put over the TNA Legends Title. He said even though Booker created it, it's a belt that a lot of people want to wear. No clowning around in this match as both guys went right to it. The ref carried a mic in his hand and stuck it in their faces after big moves or during submissions.

At 15:00, Sharmell walked to ringside. Styles hit the flying forearm off the ropes. "Hell no, man," Booker said into the mic. Booker almost ran into his wife when she climbed onto the ring apron. When he turned around, Styles locked him in an arm bar. Jenna Morasca ran out and threw in a white towel. Sharmell wasn't happy. West said that if anyone can understand how much a man can take, it's Sharmell. Um, wow.

Powell's POV: I enjoyed the match, but I hated the finish. After 15 minutes of good, serious action, they had to screw the fans out of the advertised stipulation. No one cares about the Sharmell vs. Jenna feud more than Styles vs. Booker. Lazy, ridiculously booked finish. Don't advertise an "I Quit" match unless you're going to have someone follow through on the stipulation. Too bad.

Another video aired on something... Borash interviewed Mick Foley, who vowed to keep the title... The King of Sympathy, er, the Mountain, Jeff Jarrett limped bakstage on his bad hamstring. Sting came out next, followed by Kurt Angle, followed by Mick Foley... Borash handed the in-ring introductions for the title match...

8. Sting defeated Mick Foley, Kurt Angle, and Jeff Jarrett in a four-way match in 15:00. Sting retires if he's pinned. Angle gives up Mafia control if he's pinned. Jarrett gives up ownership in TNA if he's pinned. Sting tried to kick Foley in the gut 90 seconds in and fell on his ass. Whoops. Meanwhile, Jarrett and Angle fought.

Sting and Foley brawled into the stands. Angle slammed Jarrett into the announcers' desk at ringside. We got the split screen shots of the two fights. Unfortunately, they showed seizure inducing graphics that were bigger than the shots of the wrestlers, so it was hard to follow until they went back to one camera.

Foley piledrove Sting onto the entrance ramp. Meanwhile, Angle caught Jarrett in the ankle lock. Foley entered the ring and applied the mandible claw to Jarrett. Angle released the hold to kick Foley and toss him to ringside. Foley joined the announcers on commentary. He said he was taking a rest. Tenay said he's never seen anyone do that during a World Title match. West put over Foley's plan to rest while Jarrett and Angle beat on each other and Sting was still lying at ringside.

Sting recovered and joined Angle in working over Jarrett. Meanwhile, a small "Foley sucks" chant broke out. Angle accidentally hit Sting, who wasn't pleased. Sting shoved Angle, who responded with a couple of suplexes on his Mafia partner. Angle noticed Foley was sitting at ringside with the announcers. Foley said there was no way Angle could touch him when he was sitting between the announcers.

Angle left the ring, ran toward the desk, and summersaulted onto Foley. Angle picked up Foley and hit the Angle Slam on the floor. Meanwhile, Jarrett cleared Sting from the ring. Angle slid Foley back inside the ring and then brought a chair in with him. Angle hit the Stroke on Foley, but Angle broke up the pin. Angle hit the Angle Slam on Jarrett, but Sting hit Angle and applied the Scorpion Leg Lock.

Later, Foley accidentally pushed Angle into the referee. Sting had Angle pinned, but the referee was gone. Jarrett brought his guitar inside the ring and slammed it over Sting's head. Jarrett counted his own pin while the ref was bumped. The wrestlers took turns going for pins as the referee recovered. Solid near falls.

At 14:00, Angle caught Jarrett and Sting in a double ankle lock, but Foley broke it up. Foley and Sting headed to ringside, where Sting suplexed Foley onto the concrete. Meanwhile, Jarrett hit The Stroke on Angle off the second rope and onto a chair. When Angle hit the mat, Sting ran in and covered Angle for the 1-2-3 to win the match. Afterward, the ring announcer introduced Sting as the new leader of the Main Event Mafia. Meanwhile, Foley was sprawled out on the entrance ramp hugging the TNA Title belt...

An ad aired for the Slammiversary pay-per-view on June 21...

Powell's POV: I don't think TNA was clear enough when it came to the stipulation that Foley had to be pinned in order to lose the title. I'm not sure why Sting takes over as the Mafia leader just because Angle lose. The stipulation was that Angle would give up control of the Mafia, but I don't recall anything about Sting becoming the new leader if Angle was ousted. The match itself got off to a rocky start with Sting falling on his ass after that kick, but it turned out to be a fun main event. So now the top heel group in the company is led by a babyface wrestler. Strange.
