6/13 ROH in New York: Jerry Lynn drops the ROH Title in a three-way match against Tyler Black and Austin Aries, Ric Flair not involved in the main event as advertised, D-Lo Brown vs. Bryan Danielson vs. Colt Cabana vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Jun 14, 2009 - 11:55 AM

ROH in New York, N.Y. at the Hammerstein Ballroom
By Dot Net reader Jared Brodeur

The crowd was packed which was nice to see. I didn't get a chance to be part of the autograph signing which I would have loved to be at. I got in right when the show was starting.

Austin Aries cut an in-ring promo to the degree of New Yorkers think they're tough but really are not. He said that tonight he walks out champ again. He brought out Rhett Titus and Kenny King.

1. The Young Bucks defeated Rhett Titus and Kenny King. Great openner with a lot of awesome spots. Young Bucks go over in this very entertaining openner.

Out came Ric Flair, who cut the same promo he's been cutting at these shows, saying that this company is going to be big. It was nice to see Flair wish I could have been at the autograph signings.

2. Necro Butcher beat Jimmy Rave. An okay match. It was fun to see the Embassy do there thing as they were very over. Necro goes over in this one. After the match, the Embassy tryied to break Necro's leg when Cult Cabana comes in for the save.

3. Rodrick Strong beat Sonjay Dutt. Really good back and forth action with Strong getting a win after many backbreaker variations.

4. Jimmy Jacobs defeated Tyler Black in a first blood match. Not really a match. They brawled on the outside. Jimmy pulls out a giant screw driver to open up Tyler so Jacobs goes over. Tyler anounced he would be in the main event and that it would now be a three-way.

5. Colt Cabana defeated D-Lo Brown, Bryan Danielson, and Claudio Castagnoli in a four-way. Not as good of a match as I was hoping for but a fun match non the less. Colt went over.

6. The American Wolves over El Generico and Kevin Stein in a submission match to retain the ROH Tag Titles. Good match with a lot of nice spots that look like it was going to end it. Wolves eventually got the win.

7. Jay Briscoe beat Little Guido. It was alright match, I was just happy to see Guido. Briscoe went over.

8. Austin Aries defeated Tyler Black and Jerry Lynn (c) to win the ROH World Championship. I didn't get to see much of the main event because I had to leave. What I can tell you is Flair was NOT part of the main event as Aries came out to his music and told us. Out came Nigel McGuinness to announce he would be the referee. From what I saw it look like was going to be an awesome match but I had to leave which pissed off some of the ROH people at the door (can you say pressuring the customer).

Notes: All and all I can say is that I was never a big ROH fan but have gone to some shows a while back which were fun. I've been following it more now with the HDNet show. Great wrestling and hot crowd who are made up of pretty much diehard fans. I was sitting right next to a speaker which was super loud which wasn't cool. I was sat next to a guy who apparently goes to all the shows and during the intermission would pop in a DVD of more ROH on his portable. Needless to say, that was a little overwhelming. The only other thing was I thought the show was too long. I know these things doesn't bother there hardcore fans but when attracting casual fans like me it's a little much. Besides that, though, great matches and the workers worked hard.

Editor's Note: There are more details regarding the main event in a previous recap of the show that was posted earlier.
