8/1 Twilling's ROH on HDNet Live Coverage: Jay Briscoe vs. Roderick Strong vs. D-Lo Brown, Kenny Omega and Erick Stevens vs. Rhett Titus and Kenny King
Aug 1, 2009 - 08:00 PM |
ROH on HDNet
Taped in Philadelphia, PA
[Q1] The opening video aired. Footage was shown of the three Tyler Black vs. Bryan Danielson matches, with the only finish coming with Black winning the final of the three...
Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak introduced the show. Tyler Black came out to the ring to be interviewed by Kyle Durden. Austin Aries interrupted the interview and made his way out to the ring as well. A Double wanted to know why he was not being interviewed. Durden said it was Tyler’s time. Aries said if Tyler wanted time, he should get “one of these” (the title belt).
Aries wondered why Tyler thought he could beat him. Black said he was bigger, stronger, hungrier, and he had the people behind him. Nigel McGuinness came out and cut a promo from the bottom of the ramp. He said Tyler Black never got the job done on game day. He wondered if he could keep his eye off of the ball. As Black watched Nigel leave, Aries knocked him out with the belt...
Twill’s Two Cents: Solid opening segment that cemented Tyler as the number one contender and Nigel as the straw that stirs the drink. Austin Aries was great as always during the segment.
Hogewood promoted the main event of D-Lo vs. Roderick Strong vs. Jay Briscoe. A video package of Strong aired...
1. Rhett Titus and Kenny King defeated Kenny Omega and Erick Stevens in 12:22. Omega opened up the bout with Ricky Steamboat like armdrags on King. Titus was able to tag in and gain the advantage for his team.
[Q2] Omega impressed again with a standing hurricarana. King scored a nearfall after Titus distracted the referee and King hit a huge kick on Omega. Titus came in and scored a series of nearfalls on Omega. Both King and Titus had their way with Omega for many minutes. Omega came back with a top rope high cross body.
Stevens finally was able to tag in. Titus tried a springboard move and slipped. They were able to double team Stevens because Omega was still recovering. They scored a nearfall with the knee to the back/top rope knee combination. Omega took care of King with a moonsault to the floor.
King and Omega botched a move and the crowd let them know. Omega hit a hurricarana on both opponents at the same time. Omega went for the Electric Chair German on King, but Titus pulled the leg out from underneath Omega, ala Bobby Heenan and the Ultimate Warrior from WrestleMania V, and the referee counted to three...
Twill’s Two Cents: Spectacular in spots and very sloppy in other spots. I like both of these teams, but they are both a step below the Wolves and Steen and Generico, in my opinion. I would like to see more from these two teams though because they will just continue to get better.
A video of D-Lo Brown aired. He said his strategy was to take out one of his opponents and make it a one-on-one match... [C]
Hogewood and Prazak made a brief announcement about former ROH Champion Jerry Lynn. They said he was home talking with his family about his future...
[Q3] 2. Eddie Kingston defeated Orange Cassidy in 1:44. Footage was shown of Kingston attacking Chris Hero last week. He hit the backdrop driver and back fist for the squash win...
Durden interviewed Kingston in the ring after the match. He said his feud with Hero would end when Hero is out of the business for good...
Twill’s Two Cents: I am not clamoring to see Kingston vs. Hero but maybe they will pleasantly surprise me.
In case you just tuned in, footage was shown of what happened earlier in the show. It was announced in two weeks Nigel McGuinness would face Tyler Black. Next week’s main event will be Davey Richards vs. El Generico...
A Jay Briscoe video aired...
3. Roderick Strong defeated Jay Briscoe and D-Lo Brown in a triple threat match in 13:00. Briscoe and Strong attacked D-Lo early with a double shoulder block to knock him from the ring. D-Lo came back and scored a nearfall with a brainbuster on Briscoe. As Strong and Briscoe worked together, they went for covers and broke up each other’s attempts.
D-Lo came back with a double suplex and knocked Briscoe from the ring with a knee strike. With Briscoe and D-Lo on the floor, Strong hit a somersault plancha. Strong rested in the ring as the other two fought over who would get back into the ring first. D-Lo hit a backstabber for a very nearfall.
[Q4] D-Lo hit a springboard high cross body over the top to the floor on Jay. He then took over in the ring and worked over Roderick. The three traded forearms like a back scratching train. Jay hit a Death Valley Driver on D-Lo for a two count. They hit a superplex/powerbomb combo with D-Lo getting the best of it.
Briscoe broke up a STF by D-Lo. Strong lifted D-Lo on his shoulders but Jay hit him with a thrust kick to the face. D-Lo attempted his powerbomb finisher but Roderick applied a sunset flip and rolled through for the three count...
Twill’s Two Cents: Boring first few minutes but the second half of the match definitely made up for it. D-Lo was gassed but he looked much better here than the last time he was on TV. Strong and Briscoe were not able to do the things they could do in a one-on-one match, but D-Lo was a nice variation for them. Solid match.
