7/18 Twilling's ROH on HDNet Live Coverage: The American Wolves and Chris Hero vs. KENTA, Kevin Steen, and El Generico, Delirious vs. Brodie Lee, Jimmy Jacobs promo
Jul 18, 2009 - 08:00 PM

ROH on HDNet
Taped in Philadelphia, PA

[Q1] The opening video aired. Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak welcomed us to the show. They hyped tonight’s six man main event and promised Nigel McGuinness would reveal who he thinks will be the next ROH World Champion...

1. The Young Bucks defeated Silas Young and Bobby Fish in 6:34. The Bucks scored the first nearfall with a double team assisted dropkick. Fish came back with a dropkick of his own and tagged in Silas. Young hit a belly to back suplex with a two count as Matt Jackson continued to be isolated by the heel duo.

Young and Fish utilized multiple tags. Matt tagged his brother Nick, who hit a few high flying moves, including a springboard high cross body for a nearfall. The Bucks hit a couple of double team moves. Young came back but missed an Arabian Press and was rolled up for the win...

Twill’s Two Cents: Solid opening tag team match between two teams that prove how deep the ROH tag team division is. The Bucks are a fun team and I really thought Young and Fish work a great, old school style.

Footage was shown of the previous two one on one matches on HDNet between Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black. They will face each other again next week...

Tyler Durden interviewed Chris Hero and the American Wolves backstage. Hero called himself hungry and said he would eat KENTA raw. Davey Richards said they would either knock you out or tap you out. He told KENTA the war continues...

Footage was shown of Jimmy Jacobs snapping and beating himself up with his own railroad spike a few weeks ago...

Jimmy Jacobs cut a very subdued and humble promo backstage. He said he has been wrestling for ten years, has been in ROH for six years, and leading the Age of the Fall for two years. He did not blame anyone for his failures but himself. He said the fans were disappointed in him and he agreed. He didn’t know what he believed in anymore and he said it would be a long time before we saw him again...

Twill’s Two Cents: Great promo by Jacobs. I love when even the most dastardly heel can show contrition. Jacobs is one of my favorite ROH wrestlers and I hope he isn’t gone as long as he says he is going to be.

[Q2] 2. Delirious defeated Brodie Lee in 6:05. The match was ruined for me because all I could focus on was the referee yelling “stay off the mask” to Brodie Lee. Shit, if he is going to wear it, then it should be free for usage by an opponent. Brodie used his immense power and Delirious his speed. He hit the panic attack and followed with Shadows Over Hell for the win...

Twill’s Two Cents: Brodie needs a makeover because he looks like an indy guy. He could be something special too. I’m not a big Delirious guy, but he is fun to watch in the ring.

Nigel McGuinness said he would tell us next week who will be the next ROH World Heavyweight Champion. Durden interviewed Austin Aries and asked him about Nigel. A Double was offended that Durden’s question was about Nigel. He said Nigel looked good, but Austin was the best in the world...

The Embassy cut a promo that was preceded by a disclaimer that the opinions they shared were not those of ROH or HDNet. Of course Prince Nana was using a ROH microphone. Funny. This was a basic anti-America promo...

An advertisement aired promoting future appearances by Bret Hart and Ric Flair...

[Q3] Bryan Danielson stood face to face with Tyler Black as Durden held the microphone. Black said once Danielson slapped him in the face, he killed their partnership and friendship. Bryan said he needed the slap. Nigel appeared and pointed out he was correct in saying the two could not trust each other. He said looked at both men repeatedly while saying, “I’m looking at the next ROH Champion right now,” just as he looked into the camera...

Twill’s Two Cents: I love Danielson and Black, but damn, Nigel outshines everybody. He is a star.

3. Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, and Chris Hero (with Shane Hagadorn and Sarah Del Rey) defeated Kevin Steen, El Generico, and KENTA in 20:29. Davey wanted KENTA at the three minute mark. Prazak reminded the fans that Davey was the American apprentice of KENTA in Japan. Edwards tagged in and KENTA hit a few big kicks before tagging in Generico.

Richards came back in and found himself in the wrong corner as the faces kept hitting him with shots. Steen quickly found himself in the same predicament. Hero made a blind tag and nearly knocked out Steen with a forearm to the back of the head. Seriously they need to edit out the referee audio; it really takes a lot away from the match(es).

Steen took a series of moves and the heels continued to make quick tags. Richards locked in a leg vise on Steen. Hogewood oversold a Steen comeback and the heels thwarted it. Steen just could not get out of the corner of his opponents. KENTA made the hot tag and took out everybody with closelines and kicks.

[Q4] He scored a nearfall on Edwards with a sit down powerbomb. With Hero and Richards on the floor, Generico hit a top rope somersault plancha. In the ring, KENTA with for the GTS but it was countered into a hurricarana. Hero tagged in and hit a Liger bomb but KENTA kicked out. Generico tagged in and hit a high cross body for a two count.

Richards was not the legal man, but he hit a series of kicks on Steen. He then hit an amazing spot of a flipping suicide dive in which he ended up in the crowd. Back in the ring, Richards and KENTA were given the floor as they exchanged multiple right hands. Generico rolled up Davey for a nearfall after KENTA kicked him in the head.

Steen hit a Swanton and KENTA a double stomp but Hero broke up the pinfall. Generico went for a brainbuster but Richards dropkicked him in the knee. Richards locked in the Texas Cloverleaf and Generico tapped out...

Twill’s Two Cents: Wow, that was a damn good match. KENTA is always a pleasure to see in North America and Richards is rapidly becoming my favorite in ring performer in ROH. Hero is impressive for a big guy, I just don’t like his look. Steen and Generico were great as always. Great main event.

Next week’s show was hyped with Danielson vs. Black III and Eddie Kingston attacking Chris Hero...
