6/6 Twilling's ROH on HDNet Live Coverage: Most notable show and main event to date with Jerry Lynn vs. Bryan Danielson vs. Tyler Black vs. Austin Aries for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship
Jun 6, 2009 - 08:00 PM

ROH on HDNet
Taped in Philadelphia, PA

[Q1] The opening video aired. Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak introduced the show. Of course, they plugged tonight's four way main event for the ROH Title...

Prince Nana, Ernie Osiris, and Claudio Castagnoli cut a pre-match promo. Brent Albright and Colt Cabana did the same and as usual, Cabana was hilarious...

1. Colt Cabana and Brent Albright defeated Ernie Osiris (with Prince Nana) and Claudio Castagnoli in 4:39. The face team worked over Osiris for the first ninety seconds. When Claudio tagged in, Colt frustrated him with several mat based leg holds. Osiris threw a shoe at Colt, which allowed Claudio to get the advantage for his team.

Cabana fought back before tagging in Albright. Albright hit a series of chops and a leg lariat. He followed up with a nice overhead released belly to belly suplex and covered him for a nearfall. Osiris tagged in, as did Cabana, and Colt applied the Billy Goat's Curse (inverted Boston Crab) for the win...

After the match, Kyle Durden asked Albright how he felt to get revenge. Albright put Ernie's shoe in Kyle's face and asked him how that felt...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun opener. I could watch Cabana all day because he is hilarious. Albright and Castagnoli are always good in the ring and I would like to see more with these three (or four) moving forward.

Hogewood plugged the main event tonight. Bryan Danielson, Tyler Black, Austin Aries, and Jerry Lynn gave their thoughts on tonight's match and four way matches in general...

Ric Flair will also appear on the show to talk about tonight's title match...

[Q2] 2. Bobby Dempsey defeated Sal Rinauro in :47. Dempsey dominated and hit the Death Valley Driver for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Dempsey is over with the crowd for sure.

Hogewood and Prazak "interviewed" Ric Flair. Flair talked about preparing for various opponents, like Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race, and Bruiser Brody. Flair called himself the best and it did not matter who he faced because he was second to none.

Flair was asked what was different about ROH from other promotions. He said ROH was built with young guys and they were a true youth movement. He said he would not have his name attached to it if it wasn't going to be successful. He said he was giving back to the business the ability to dream that someday, they could be as good as him.

Flair said he could still do this now and that he was still better than most. He called himself a legacy all on his own. He said being the man and staying the man (while pointing at himself) were two different things. He said he would shake the hand of the person better than him but that hasn't happened yet...

Twill's Two Cents: There was no mention of Flair leaving the company. Funny, if Flair was a heel, Hog would have taken him to task for being so cocky. Flair put himself over and not the company or its talent. Not sure why that was necessary.

Austin Aries, Tyler Black, Bryan Danielson, and Jerry Lynn made their respective entrances. The introductions were done championship style with all four men in the ring...

3. Jerry Lynn defeated Austin Aries, Tyler Black, and Bryan Danielson in a four way match to retain the ROH Title in 21:37. After the introductions and Jerry Lynn getting booed, Cary Silkin approached the four men as they all shook hands with each other. Of course, Aries did so reluctantly... [C]

[Q3] The bell rang and the four men approached each other. The first man to score a pinfall or submission would win the match and the title. Lynn and Aries fought to the floor and it left Danielson and Black in the ring. Black knocked Danielson from the ring and Lynn stepped back in to face Tyler.

Bryan locked up Lynn's legs as Aries and Black fought in the aisle. Lynn was in pain but would not submit. Aries worked over Lynn with a back and chest rake, but Lynn countered with the same move. Danielson put Black in a surfboard, but Aries dropped an elbow to Danielson's head to break the hold.

All four men were involved in a chinlock and Black, who was on the bottom, broke the hold with a jawbreaker. Bryan tried to cover both Lynn and Black with Aries on the floor, but he was not able to score the pinfall. Back in the ring, Austin scored a two count after hitting a reverse neckbreaker with Lynn in the ropes.

Austin kept trying to hit a heat seeking missile, but someone kept grabbing his foot as he hit the opposite ropes. Austin took a few moves and Bryan's pin attempt was broken up by both Lynn and Black. Lynn scored a nearfall on Danielson after a sunset flip/German suplex combination.

Danielson and Lynn were exchanging pinfall attempts. As Bryan bridged out, Tyler hit a Lionsault on both of them and covered both men for a two count, but Danielson bridged both of them up. Impressive. Aries countered an Irish whip by hitting the heat seeking missile on Lynn on the floor. Black followed with a somersault plancha on both of them.

Danielson hit a springboard move onto Black, leaving both of them in the crowd. Aries slid back into the ring and the referee started counting. Prazak said Aries would win the title on a countout because he was the only one in the ring. Lynn slid in the ring at 19, saving his title. Aries went for the brainbuster but Lynn applied a backslide for a two count.

Austin hit the running dropkick in the corner and the brainbuster. Lynn put hit foot on the rope just before three. Black reentered the ring and after Aries missed the 450 splash, Black hit the buckle bomb on Aries into Lynn. Tyler went for the Phoenix splash onto both men, but Bryan countered with a belly to back superplex onto everyone. Dangerous move.

[Q4] Bryan locked in the triangle choke on Black. Aries almost pinned Lynn. Black picked up Danielson and powerbombed him into the other two, breaking up two submission holds. All four men rose at nine. Tyler nearly pinned Danielson but Lynn broke it up. The crowd responded with "F*ck you Lynn, f*ck you Lynn." Wow.

The match finish came with Bryan hitting a double underhook German suplex for a two count. Bryan tried to roll through to perhaps try the Cattle Mutilation, but Lynn caught him, picked him up, and hit the cradle piledriver for the win...

After the match, Danielson sold the piledriver by convulsing in the ring. Aries tried to grab the belt but Lynn snatched it first. Aries left the ring. Black and Lynn shook hands and Black gave him the "this close" finger symbol. Lynn tried to help Danielson up but Bryan refused the help. They finally shook hands as Lynn stood tall in the middle of the ring. The crowd booed overwhelmingly...

Twill's Two Cents: The last ten minutes definitely more than made up for the first ten minutes. I actually preferred last week's tag team title main event and the second match between Danielson and Black. That's not to say this was not a very good match, because it was. The crowd was very passionate for wanting Black to win the title. I like Jerry Lynn and knew there was not going to be a title change, but I wanted to see it too.

Next week's show will feature an in ring promo by Austin Aries and a one on one match between Jerry Lynn and Chris Hero...
