5/30 Twilling's ROH on HDNet Live Coverage: Kevin Steen and El Generico defend the tag team titles against The American Wolves, Roderick Strong vs. Rhett Titus, Sarah Del Rey vs. Daizee Haze vs. MisChif
May 30, 2009 - 08:00 PM

ROH on HDNet
Taped in Philadelphia, PA

[Q1] The opening video aired. Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak welcomed us to the show. They sent it to Rhett Titus, who gave his pre-match promo. Roderick Strong cut his promo as well, and it was Jeff Farmer worthy. Please, youtube Jumpin' Jeff Farmer and "best promo ever." ...

1. Roderick Strong defeated Rhett Titus in 6:54. Hogewood described a Titus move as "having too much thrusting." Prazak retorted with, "You can never have too much thrusting." Hogewood said, "I think I am going to move my chair a few feet away." Funny. With Titus in control, Strong battled back with a thrust kick and reverse high cross body for a nearfall.

Hogewood made a couple of lame jokes and Prazak no sold him. Nice. Strong ended up winning the match with the gutbuster and low dropkick combination...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun match. I enjoyed it and I thought it was a solid way to start the show.

The announcers put over tonight's main event of Steen and Generico defending the tag team titles against the American Wolves. They then plugged next week's main event fourway match for the ROH World Championship. An Austin Aries video aired...

Twill's Twill Cents: Aries is awesome. He and I are two of the greatest men to ever live, so it is a pleasure to share that stage with him.

[Q2] 2. Shimmer Champion MisChif (with Jimmy Jacobs) defeated Daizee Haze and Sarah Del Rey in a non-title match in 2:37. Solid action for the short time she was there. Prazak was putting over everyone (of course!). MisChif won the match after spitting the green mist into Daizee's eyes. She hit the Desecrator for the win...

After the match, Tyler Durden interviewed MisChif and Jacobs. Jacobs put over The Age of the Fall. MisChif screamed into the mic...

Twill's Two Cents: It's funny how Prazak puts everyone over in the Shimmer matches. Although it was short, I enjoyed this match very match.

As the show went to commercial, a nWo like promo aired for Prince Nana, Ernie Osiris, and Claudio Castagnoli. It was a standard heel promo by the trio... [C]

2. Erick Stevens defeated Sami Callahan in 2:49. They shook hands and the fans started an alternate chant. After some back and forth action. Stevens hit the Dr. Bomb for the relatively quick win...

Twill's Two Cents: Stevens should not ever say "Choo choo" again. Besides that, he is definitely someone with a lot of upside.

[Q3] The announcers cut a satellite interview with Nigel McGuinness. Nigel was not willing to give up information about his rehabilitation. Nigel spoke a bit about all four men in next week's four way title match. He put over Lynn as the guy who beat him. He said he was coming back and was going to reclaim his place in wrestling history...

Twill's Two Cents: Not sure what is up with the editing, but it was painfully obvious that the interview was not synchronized. Not sure also why people think Nigel is making a face turn. He is going to be a tweener.

3. The American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) defeated Kevin Steen and El Generico in a tables match to win the ROH World Tag Team Championships in 13:14. Steen and Generico were the first to bring a table into the ring after enjoying an offensive advantage. Steen tried to powerbomb Richards through a table, but Richards slithered out and hit a dropkick to Steen's injured knee.

The Wolves hit the superkick/German suplex combo on Generico into the table, but the table did not break. They finally broke the table by driving Steen's knee through it. The crowd chanted "You still suck" at The Wolves. Richards and Edwards hit multiple kicks to Steen. Generico came back and hit a double high cross body to both American Wolves.

[Q4] Generico hit a a Tornado DDT on Richards and followed with a risky looking somersault plancha onto the floor. Steen and Generico hit the Swanton and big splash combo for a two count. The champs pulled out two tables and stacked them. Hog said the tables were not cheap...

Twill's Two Cents: Actually Mike, they are cheap.

Richards and Edwards hit multiple moves on Steen while he was in the corner. Richards missed a Shooting Star Press. On the floor, Generico laid Edwards on a table and hit a splash to break him through the table. Steen locked the Sharpshooter on Richards but Shane Hagador came down to distract him. Steen hit the package piledriver on Hagador.

Steen went for the top rope moonsault, but he was pushed through two tables on the floor. Back in the ring, Generico climbed to the ropes and attempted to hit the Brainbuster through the table. The Wolves took over and hit a double team top rope bulldog for the win. As the Wolves celebrated, Steen and Generico hugged...

The graphic aired for next week's cannot miss show, which will feature Jerry Lynn defending the ROH Championship against Bryan Danielson, Tyler Black, and Austin Aries in a four way match...

Twill's Two Cents: One thing ROH has on WWE or TNA is that title changes are a huge deal. Tonight's tag title match was a legit ROH main event and I loved every minute of it. Too bad not many people are watching, because tonight's match and then next week's world title match were/are going to be fantastic. Fyi, I predict Tyler Black will win the title next week. Would love to see Austin win though since Bryan is taking time off.
