4/19 Mathieson's ROH on HDnet Live Coverage: Davey Richards vs. Kenny King in a TV Title Tournament semifinal, The Briscoes vs. the House of Truth, and Colt Cabana in action
Apr 19, 2010 - 07:00 PM

Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDnet
Taped in Philadelphia, PA

Highlights of last week's very strong show aired, touching on everything that happened, including the Steve Corino/El Generico segment and really good Kevin Steen vs. Eddie Edwards main event. Mike Hogewood introduced tonight's main event of Davey Richards vs. Kenny King in a TV title tournament semifinal.

1. Colt Cabana defeated Ricky Reyes in 4:07. Dave Prazak mentioned that Reyes is a former tag champion who in fact defeated Cabana and CM Punk to win the belts. Reyes didn't follow the Code of Honor. At 3:00, Cabana hit a quebrada and rolled through for a nearfall. He went for the Colt 45, but Reyes reversed into a suplex for two. Shortly thereafter Cabana hit the Colt 45 for the win.

Joe's Judgment: Quick and painless. Reyes isn't all that good and this sort of thing isn't Cabana's strength. Still, it was kind of fun to see Reyes back for nostalgic purposes.

Prazak and Hogewood hyped the Cabana/Generico vs. Steen/Corino Chicago Street Fight this Saturday in, where else, Chicago. Highlights from the Big Bang match between the two teams were shown, with kinda weird slo-mo effects.

Steen and Corino cut a promo saying they were the two most dangerous men in ROH, and Generico made a mistake. Steen said he would rip his guts out in Chicago. Cabana cut a promo with Generico standing next to him, talking about how Generico tasted redemption in Charlotte, and he was coming for Steen in Chicago.

Last week's segment with Davey Richards calling out Tyler Black was recapped. Tyler Black said that Davey had to get in line, with Strong and Aries and everybody else.

Highlights of the triple threat match at The Big Bang aired, again with the awkward slo-mo effects. The PPV is available to watch on demand at GoFightLive.tv.[C]

Highlights from previous TV title matches for Richards and King aired, vs. Delirious and El Generico in the first round, respectively. Kyle Durden was backstage with Kenny King. King applauded Eddie Edwards, and Davey Richards showed up. King said that everyone knew Edwards carried Richards throughout their tag title reign, and he would beat Richards tonight.

Highlights of the Briscoes vs. the Kings of Wrestling at The Big Bang were shown, followed by Mark Briscoe yelling about a rematch as Jay sat next to him.

2. The Briscoes defeated The House of Truth (Josh Raymond and Christian Able) in 6:15. The Briscoes controlled the first couple minutes, but the HOT quickly jumped on the offensive with doubleteams on Mark. They got a nearfall with a suplex from Able.

Mark made a hot tag to Jay who spinebustered Able for a nearfall. Able avoided the Jaydriller and hit a suplex for a nearfall. Raymond came in and the HOT hit a quebrada Veg-O-Matic. Nice. Able knocked Mark to the floor and Raymond went for some sort of a spinning moonsault but landed on Jay's knees. The Briscoes quickly hit the Doomsday Device and got the pin.

Joe's Judgment: More HOT please. Raymond is awesome and Able is getting there. They did a really good job of selling like they might upset the Briscoes, even though everyone knew there was no chance. And their offense was cool looking too.

Austin Aries basically recapped his title reign, talking about how he gave guys opportunities they never had, and how Jim Cornette screwed it up...

3. Davey Richards defeated Kenny King in 13:30. Richards worked on King's leg with several different holds as Hogewood and Prazak talked about Davey's amateur wrestling and MMA background, and how he's now a paramedic. Davey kicked King to the floor and went for a dive, but King met him with a kick to the head.

Both men went hold for hold on the mat for several minutes. When both were on their feet, Davey hit several kicks and then a slap. They exchanged move after move for nearfalls, and King hit a suplex into the corner and set Davey up for a superplex. Davey fought out and hit a flying armbar. He locked in a Fujiwara armbar, but King got out and then Richards locked it in again.

Richards turned the Fujiwara into a bridging armbar. King barely made it to the ropes, and then hit his shotgun knees and a springboard blockbuster for a nearfall. King went for a super Royal Flush, but Davey countered into a top rope huracanrana. King hit his cartwheel kick and motioned for the Coronation.

Davey hit a running knee strike for two and locked in an armbar. King fought out, but then Davey got another armbar and King was forced to tap out at 13:30. Next week's main event is now Richards vs. Eddie Edwards in a battle of the American Wolves for the ROH TV Title.

Joe's Judgment: Daaaammmmnnn. Richards is pretty much the man. He and King have great chemistry and I could watch this match all day. The mat work was beautiful and the constant submission teases were great as well. Really good match, about as good as last week's.

Overall the show was a bit heavier on the promos and videos, and a bit lighter on the wrestling than what we've come to expect from ROH, but I could get used to it. What wrestling we did have was good, and the show was all-around pretty solid.
