9/11 Ring of Honor TV taping in Philadelphia, Pa.: Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness make their final scheduled ROH appearances in Philly, plus a beard vs. beard match (spoilers)
Sep 12, 2009 - 03:22 PM |
ROH in Philadelphia, Pa. at The Arena
Report courtesy of Brian Streleckis and Steve Kriske of PWChronicle.com.
1. Kenny King defeated Brent Albright. Rhett Titus grabbed and held Albright’s leg from the outside, allowing King to get the pin.
2. D-Lo Brown defeated Sal Rinauro. Sal did double squash duty for the night.
Nigel McGuinness cut an awesome farewell promo.
3. The American Wolves defeated The Young Bucks to retain the ROH Tag Team Titles. Eddie Edwards made Matt Jackson tap out to a half crab for the win. Great match.
Intermission
4. The Briscoes fought Dark City Fight Club to a no contest. They brawled all over the place and the ref threw the match out.
5. Eddie Kingston defeated Claudio Castagnoli. Kingston got a hold of Chris Hero’s elbow pad and used it to hit his spinning back fist for the victory.
6. Austin Aries defeated Colt Cabana in a non-title match. Aries used the Last Chancery for the submission win.
Intermission
7. Chris Hero defeated Delirious. Sonjay Dutt attacked Delirious before the match, so he was at a disadvantage, and fell prey to Hero’s elbow strike.
8. Grizzly Redwood and Necro Butcher defeated Prince Nana and Joey Ryan in a Beard vs. Beard Match. Ernie Osiris was injured and didn’t wrestle, but his beard was on the line for the Embassy. After the match, Redwood put Osiris out with a sleeper hold and cut off most of his beard.
9) “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown defeated Darren Matthews.
10. Roderick Strong defeated Bryan Danielson. The atmosphere was electric for Danielson’s last ROH match in Philadelphia, and the match lived up to it. Strong hit a gutbuster off the second rope and a Yakuza Kick to earn the win.
After the match, Strong cut a promo thanking Danielson for his contributions to the company, and the locker room emptied as the wrestlers (including the injured Tyler Black, making his first appearance of the night) thanked and congratulated him. Danielson gave a farewell promo in which he encouraged the fans to keep supporting ROH, and he put over the young wrestlers as well as Nigel McGuinness. “The Final Countdown” played to close out the show
