ROH owner Cary Silkin explains why he fired booker Gabe Sapolsky, declines to acknowledge whether Adam Pearce is booking
Dec 26, 2008 - 01:15 PM

Ring of Honor owner Cary Silkin granted his first interview since he fired Gabe Sapolsky to Alfonso Castillo of Newsday.com. "A lot of it boiled down to simple business and as a company there needed to be some changes," Silkin said. "Gabe was a very successful booker for most of his run. I think historically, six years-plus as a booker might be a record. And, you know, things just weren’t working. And it was the right time to make a change. It’s pretty much as simple as that. He did a tremendous amount of good things in his time, but it had sort of run its course and the change was important."

Silkin was also asked to explain why Adam Pearce was chosen to replace Sapolsky. "At this point, we don’t even discuss who’s booking, or I don’t discuss who’s booking or what’s going on in booking," he continued. "Because it’s not important. What’s important is the bottom line product." To read the full interview, visit Newsday.com.

Powell's POV: ROH has dropped the ball on the booking change. I get what they're saying about keeping the focus on the in-ring product, but they could have generated more of a buzz about the product had they made Pearce available for interviews and done more to get people talking about the possible differences in booking philosophies. The company needs to get people talking about the product again and the business as usual approach hasn't helped. By the way, there's much more to the interview and it's a rare chance to hear from the ROH owner, so I highly recommend it.
