1/7 ROH TV taping spoilers: A detailed report on the taping for upcoming television shows (spoilers)
Jan 7, 2012 - 06:45 PM

Dot Net reader Dustin Diaz is at the Ring of Honor television taping in Baltimore, Md. and is sending in updates. You must refresh the page for the latest updates.

Dark Match

1. Devon Storm defeated a local wrestler. The local wrestler was not someone I recognized. Standard indy opener.

ROH TV Taping (First Show)

Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness then entered the ring to introduce the first episode and talk about the matches.

1. Eddie Edwards defeated Mike Mondo. Edwards won with the 2K1 Bomb. The crowd was heavily into Eddie, but didn't care much for Mondo aside from some Spirit Squad chants. A short, uneventful match. Okay.

Jim Cornette interviewed The Briscoes, who had the ROH Tag belts with them. They want to collect the fine money from the World's Greatest Tag Team chair attack. They put over Baltimore and welcome all challengers. They started a massive "Man Up" chant and left.

2. Roderick Strong (w/Michael Elgin, Truth Martini) beat Ricky Reyes. Strong won by reversing a rollup and grabbing a handful of tights. The match lacked heat - nobody knew who Reyes was. (I've been watching ROH since 2005 and haven't seen him.) Strong's power spots were the most over thing in the match.

I'm estimating 500 or so for the crowd, though I'm not good at that. Anyway, I've been to a dozen or so ROH shows, and this attendance is a bit lower than I expect usually, but not by much.

3. Matt Jackson (w/Nick Jackson) defeated Kenny King (w/Rhett Titus). Matt stole a win when Nick hit King with one of injured Titus's crutches during a springboard move. This match was the longest so far and got hotter as it went. Typical ROH main event with a fast pace and good moves. A brawl broke out after the match due to the cheating. Referees separated the two teams. The Bucks left while taunting ANX. End of first taping.

Second Show Taping

The announcers introduced the second episode and set up a video package regarding changes in The Embassy.

1. Tomasso Ciampa (w/Prince Nana, another man) defeated T.J. Perkins. The other man in Ciampa's corner wore a green jacket. Ciampa won with a running Liger Bomb/backbreaker. Another long match with interference from The Embassy, and it continued the trend of good action tonight. Ciampa strikes me as a much simpler wrestler than Perkins, but he got the duke here.

Devon Storm and Grizzly Redwood entered for the next match. The House of Truth interrupted them. Truth Martini offered Storm $500 to give Michael Elgin the match or said he would take a beating from The House of Truth. Storm accepted the offer and left. Nobody cared. WTF is this WCW relic doing in ROH?

2. Michael Elgin (w/The House of Truth) defeated Grizzly Redwood. Elgin won with the spinning seated powerbomb. Elgin dominated with his power. The House of Truth diffused a brief comeback by Redwood.

3. Davey Richards and Kyle O'Reilly defeated Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander. Richards and O'Reilly won with a doubleteam stomp and guillotine. Richards took the mic after and talked up Baltimore. He dubbed his team "Team Ambition" and put over his opponents. Coleman and Alexander then promised they'd be back in 2012. Edwards then came out and applauded the victors. It was awkward though. Intermission was held after this match.

Third Show Taping

1. Jay Lethal beat "The Prodigy" Mike Bennett (w/Brutal Bob and Maria) to retain the ROH TV Title. The match was the best of the night so far. Worth seeing with a fast pace. Bennett is going to end up in WWE for sure. Maria was distractingly hot at ringside. She caused Bennett to lose when she caused a distraction but Lethal rolled him up when he made a careless cover (think HHH-Hardy from No Mercy a few years back).

Kevin Steen cut a promo promising to win the ROH World Title. Jim Cornette, Cary Silkin and a group of ROH officials interrupted. Cornette banned the package piledriver, but Steen promised that wouldn't stop him. He said that when he wins the belt, Cornette won't be able to do anything about him.

Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin came out for a match, but then said they'd give an interview because Steen talked too long. (Not sure if that's storyline or ad-lib.) They were to face the Bravados. Benjamin criticized the Briscoes' fans. He said he was holding the show hostage until the Briscoes came out and granted them a tag title rematch. Enter Todd Sinclair... then Cornette, who pleads with WGTT that there wasn't time. The Briscoes came out and the bell rang to start an impromptu match.

2. Mark and Jay Briscoe defeated Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin by DQ. Benjamin hit a Briscoe with a chair. The match was just picking up speed when Haas kicked a Briscoe out of a pin into a chair Benjamin held up. WGTT went strong heel here. Cornette fined them again. "It was worth it!" shouted Benjamin as he left. "I've got a lot of money."

Fourth Show Taping

1. Eddie Edwards defeated Kyle O'Reilly after reversing a rollup. Fast-paced, stiff and lots of reversals. This was your old-school ROH match for the night, and I mean that in the best possible way. Edwards had O'Reilly in the ankle lock when Davey Richards came out to back up O. Then Adam Cole came out to back up Eddie.

Edwards then invited Cole to form a tag team of their own, then challenged Team Ambition to a match. So ROH has basically been about Eddie and Davey's unspoken love for a long time now, thought we blew that off (no pun intended) at Final Battle... I guess we are in for a couple more years of that.

2. Mike Mondo defeated a local wrestler. The local worker was someone I've never seen or heard of. He had curly hair and graffiti pants. No match wasn't gonna follow the previous one no matter what, so I'm sending this before it even ends because nobody in the crowd gives a f---. Did we really need to send Mike Mondo again, as if we wanted to see him before?!? The crowd started getting hostile... we knew there was one more good match and one more shitty match to go, and we weren't in the mood for this one.

Enter Kevin Steen, who laid out both men with the F5 (apparently his new finisher) after decrying these men having a match when he has to wait for his return (no shit, Mike Mondo?). Steve Corino appeared at the timekeeper's table, but officials kept them apart.

3. Michael Elgin and Roderick Strong defeated The Briscoes by DQ. House of Truth won by DQ when Jay Briscoe went to the back, fed up with the House's shenanigans, and returned with a baseball bat, which he used on the House.

The Briscoes gave the farewell promo. Great show! Only in ROH can the main event end in a screwjob but nobody complains.
