ROH News
ROH announcement turns out to be an ad for a sale on DVDs, tickets, etc.
Apr 20, 2008 - 07:14 PM

The "huge announcement" RIng of Honor teased for Sunday turned out to be the announcement of a 33 percent off sale at the ROHwrestling.com website. There had been speculation on the Newsday.com site that the company would be announcing a television deal. However, ROH booker Gabe Sapolsky told Prowrestling.net on Sunday that nothing is imminent regarding a television deal.

Powell's POV: The "huge announcement" was definitely overstated and there is a mix of frustrated and tolerant viewers on the company's website. It was the first item mentioned in the press release the company sent out on Thursday. It was one line that read "There will be a huge announcement on www.ROHwrestling this Sunday."

The sale announcement certainly didn't live up to the hype. Was it a ploy to create web interest or a poor choice of wording? I'm willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt in that it may have been a poor choice of wording and it was simply one line in a press release, but I must say that they could have issued a statement to lower expectations once Alfonso Castillo of Newsday threw out the possibility that the company was on the verge of announcing a television deal.
