Former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam talks about when he lost confidence in the new ECW, becoming WWE Champion, and said Vince McMahon "ripped his heart out"
Nov 11, 2009 - 05:16 PM

Former WWE and ECW Champion Rob Van Dam had a lot to say in a UK Sun interview with Simon Rothstein. RVD was very emotional about the original ECW and his thoughts about the new ECW.

-RVD on when he knew the new ECW was doomed: "But almost right away they added "credibility" — as Vince put it — to the show, by adding rules. So then it became that Extreme Rules would be one match out of the night, like a lottery drawing. It watered down the rest of the card. I lost faith at a very precise moment, when I lost an argument with Vince over it."

Twill's Two Cents: I imagine it had to have been frustrating for those who bled the original ECW to watch it become what it became.

-RVD on winning the WWE Championship: "Winning the world title meant a lot. It gave creditability to ECW. At least for the moment...so we thought!"

Twill's Two Cents: Van Dam thought becoming the champion was going to jump start ECW and give the new ECW some old school credibility.

-RVD on Vince McMahon: "We were faced with the fact that he would give ECW no credit for anything up until that point and wanted to create this new brand of wrestling that would be a global product and mainstream in every way, with Extreme Rules only as a stipulation every once in a while. Our hearts were ripped out of our chests and stomped on."

Twill's Two Cents: RVD had plenty to say about McMahon and his relationship with Paul Heyman. I say a lot of interviews are must read, but this is at the top of the list. Go out of your way to read this interview. To do so, click here.
