The Whole Effin Show with Jerry Sags
March 4, 2008
Online at KocoSports.com.
It's like something out of a Rocky movie. Jerry Sags, the 20-plus year veteran is heading into a mixed martial arts bout a heavy underdog against a cocky fighter named Jason Pharo.
"I respect what they (MMA fighters) do and I learned respect for everything." Saggs early in the show.
When asked about if he thought he was being baited into this fight Sags replied, "Whether I'm right or wrong, and I think I'm right, I have to stand up." He went on to say, "I feel like I gotta do what I gotta do."
He admitted that he didn't know much about opponent, how long he has been fighting, what his fighting style was, or even what he looked like. "I'm not saying I can kick this guys ass, what I'm saying is I'm going to stick up for myself and my business,’ Sags continued. “I'm not going to try to wrestle him, karate him, box him. I'm going to fight."
"If I get knocked out in a minute, I'm honestly a winner in my eyes,” he added.
The interview was emotional throughout.
Sags said that he was training with Don Frye, and "Judo" Gene LaBelle (thanks to Roddy Piper), and is preparing for the fight of a lifetime.
"This guy {Pharo} offends Curt (Henning}, Davey (Boy Smith}, Bret (Hart},’ Sags said. “Those are the guys I'm fighting for." He also noted,"There's going to be a punch to the face of 'the Green Dragon' with (Road Warrior) Hawk's name on it."
The show then surpassed its normal air time and Saggs agreed to stay and answer questions from the listeners.
