Former WWE and ECW wrestler Mike Bucci (a/k/a Simon Dean, Nova) reveals which ECW performer actually pitched the idea for the Blue World Order
Oct 23, 2008 - 02:25 PM

In Your Head radio with Mike Bucci
Hosts: Jack, OIB, Barbie
Recap by Andrew Pritchard
Airs live Wednesdays from 8:00-10:00 p.m. (EST)
Show available at InYourHead.com.

Jack started off by asking Mike Bucci how the Blue World Order started. "Me and Stevie we were doing the impersonations in ECW," he said. "We did KISS at the Arena one night, and I remember Bubba Dudley walked by and said man you are never going to do anything bigger than KISS. And Bubba said you should do a parody of the NWO. And (Blue) Meanie turned around and said we should be the BWO, Blue World Order instead of the New World Order. I thought it would last a week."

Mike Bucci on the ECW chants: "ECW's initials are the only Promotion's initials you ever see chanted. I remember seeing a tape of some goofy indy show. They did some stupid hardcore spot early on in the show and they start chanting ECW and I'm like, 'What are they nuts?'"

A caller rang in and asked what it was like working with the Shane Brothers. "I love the Gymini," he said. "If I was down on my luck, committed a murder, needed 50 bucks and a place to hide out, I could call those guys and they'd put me up. In wrestling you've got tons of acquaintances and few friends. I can't say enough about those two. I was made their manager/mouth piece because Vince (McMahon) said I want you to specifically work with these guys and make them better."

He was then asked by the caller if he thinks he was made a scapegoat when his name appeared on the Signature Pharmacist list. "I don't even look at it that way," he said. Taking the job in Talent Relations was a curse and a blessing. I opted to walk away from the ring full time. I was working about 80-95 Hours a week. I wanted to do two or three ears of executive experience, just so it would make me more attractive on an application when I went to go to a bigger company. So I took testosterone big deal."

Jack asked Mike if it was a hard decision to leave wrestling full-time. "I loved being in the ring, I loved meeting wrestling fans," he said. "I truly grew to hate the business out of wrestling. I work long hours writing loans, dealing with borrowers. I wouldn't trade it to go back to wrestling getting quarter of a million dollars a year."

On the topic of the Simon System: "I had a whole workout program worked out. I'll come up with a bunch of exercises, put a bunch of people on the DVD, and he (Vince McMahon) was actually pretty game for it. I didn't see how it could be a lose proposition."

On his matches with The Boogeyman: "When they wanted me to get wormed, I said can I use Gummy Worms because Gummy Worms would be a lot more allergic to Simon Dean. (He was told) 'No that doesn't really work for his character.' What about my character? 'This is about Boogey.'"

A caller asked how the theme music for the Blue World Order came about. "It was a group called the Swamp Candles," he said. That was 100 percent Meanie. He knew these guys from a place down in Philadelphia and he did come up to us one day and said, 'Guys I've got the perfect song for us.' I remember (Paul Heyman) heard it and said that was fantastic it sounded like '70s porno music."
