WWE Unforgiven with Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho, WWE Championship Scramble matches
By Rich Twilling and Chris Shore Sep 5, 2008 - 03:17 PM |
|
Today's Topics: Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho, Championship Scramble matches
Rich: It is Friday and so far, WWE is doing a solid job of selling the final push to Unforgiven. I am glad to see that Shawn Michaels' injury is not as bad as originally thought. I think he and Chris Jericho will still tear down the house. Given the twenty minute time limits of the other three matches, they need this match to go close to an hour.
Chris: Need may be too weak of a word. WWE has to have that match go an hour, or at least close. They also need it to stay ringside for most if not all of the action. Backstage segments will kill the live crowd and hurt the viewers at home. This is the best feud in years and it's been going on for what, six months now? Now they need a finish that will make it the angle of the decade (so far). When Shawn hits Sweet Chin Music, the live crowd should go nuts. If they do, it's history.
Rich: When I thought Michaels was going to be out, I figured Jericho would win again, move onto a feud with Punk, and Michaels would make yet another return around Wrestlemania, perhaps even costing Jericho the Rumble. I see Michaels winning but at the same time, it is on a B show. I wish they would have held onto this one for awhile.
Chris: Yeah, this match at WrestleMania would be insane. Unless the Raw and ECW scramble matches provide as much entertainment as the Smackdown scramble looks like it should, Michaels and Jericho are going to make this PPV worth the money. So you like Michaels in this match? What about the scrambles?
Rich: I think Michaels will win because this has to be the blow off to the feud, for now at least. I am most intrigued by the ECW match actually. Mark Henry has been awesome and the buildup to that match has been done better than the other two. As for predictions, I think Triple H and C.M. Punk will retain and unfortunately, I think Henry will lose, with Matt Hardy leaving with the title. You?
Chris: I actually think all three retain, though I agree that Henry is the most vulnerable. CM Punk losing proves he is not a legitimate champion and as bad as he has been booked, I don’t think anyone wants to do kill him yet. I think he retains and moves on to Randy Orton who seems ready to return and start that long rumored stable of second and third generation stars. MVP and Jeff Hardy are apparently still in a feud with Shelton Benjamin though that could change. I can’t see them putting the title on The Brian Kendrick, not yet anyway. So Hunter has to retain which leaves him feuding with Big Show maybe. Again, ECW is the wildcard match this time. Good for them. I think Henry retains but finds a way to continue the feud with Matt Hardy and they put the strap on Hardy at the next PPV. I also see the tag champs and Michelle McCool retaining as well.
Rich: Actually, now that I think about it and with the way Henry is being booked, I do see him retaining. Well, I hope so. On ECW this past Tuesday, the crowd was very hot for Henry. If WWE does not screw this up, whenever Henry gets pinned and loses the title, it will be a very huge deal. Except for Punk beating Edge, title changes lately have been lackluster. Here's hoping they do not take the title off of Henry in a fluky manner. I am glad someone remembered the Diva's Championship.
Chris: Ironically, those recent title changes have set the stage for WWE to do it right. Even if a world title changes hands, if it’s done in a non-Dusty/Russo/Vince when he’s trippin style, it should be fun to see. Of course they could also screw it up big time. Let’s hope not.
Rich: Nice point. I guess we will have a lot more answers come Sunday. Talk to you later.
