Matt or Jeff Hardy as a future world champion? Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels, John Morrison and The Miz, pushing young talent
By Rich Twilling Jul 23, 2008 - 01:58 PM |
|
Rich: How is everything going with you? What did you think of Raw on Monday night?
Chris: It was an interesting night, very up and down. I loved Chris Jericho’s promo. He was so intense. Fabulous work. I also like the Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix angle. They can bring great credibility to each other—which you pointed out nicely in your buy and sell. That being said John Cena destroying the tag champions was stupid, as was the finish to the main event.
Rich: Jericho is on fire right now. It sucks that someone returning almost always has to be a face because we could have had this since last year. I think Santino and Beth are exactly what each other need. Thank you for the compliment. It is funny; I could not have cared less about Cody Rhodes before, but now I think the sky is the limit for he and Ted Dibiase. Cena does not need to destroy them but the champions would benefit from not being destroyed. I also think most people would rather there not be a World Heavyweight Championship match than get one with that finish.
Chris: I agree twice. Cody Rhodes would have been Cody Who had his dad not been Dusty and did that angle with Randy Orton. Now, I want to see him and DiBiase. I also would rather not see a world title match than see one end like that. Vince has to get past booking week to week or the product is going to suffer big time. Look at Raw and Smackdown. The only angles—not necessarily feuds—worth watching are Jericho/Michaels and the wedding saga. Why? Those have history that you are invested in. I’m not invested in any other storylines because there aren’t any. Even the Triple H and Edge match was more intense because of the storyline.
Rich: I do not understand how they book something as fantastic as the Jericho vs. Michaels feud and then spew out some of the drivel they come up with at other times. Granted, Jericho and Michaels help make the feud what it is. However, it works both ways. If the mid-card guys are given something better to work with, some of them will use that opportunity to move up the card.
Chris: Jericho and Michaels have the ability to book themselves (at least to some extent). That’s why there is a storyline. I can’t believe that the powers that be find this garbage they are putting out enjoyable. Those people are out of touch. Let’s hope it gets better soon.
Rich: That is partially my point. They do have the ability to carry and excel in just about anything given to them. However, they still get the most attention and the best storylines. If that same attention was given to other talent, other guys would become huge stars too. What about ECW? I hope they are moving Matt Hardy into the ECW Title picture.
Chris: A Hardy as World Champion? Won't happen. Or at least I used to think so. Vince is starting to let some of the older young guys get some so maybe, just maybe. I would like to see Matt use the ECW Championship as a springboard to better titles if he is allowed to win it. I would also like to see Jeff Hardy resume his feud with Triple H for the title as well. There is so much potential out there, let’s hope someone realizes it soon.
Rich: I do not consider the ECW Title a World Championship, but I guess it is. I think between now and a year from now, Jeff Hardy will be WWE Champion. Unfortunately, I do not think Matt will ever make it that far. What about John Morrison and The Miz? Do you think they should break them up? Who do you think will have the better career as a singles wrestler?
Chris: I definitely think they should break them up. Morrison should have the better career, he is Rick Rude like and Rude had a solid career. The Miz is better than I ever thought he would be. But I think the casual fan considers him Morrison’s sidekick more than an equal. He could break out, but I doubt it.
Rich: I actually like Miz a little better. I think they could both be very good. Rude is one of my all time favorites, so if Morrison gets to that level, I will become a huge fan of his too. I guess his mic skills and gimmick kind of turn me off to him. However, he is a very good worker.
Chris: He’s a long way from MNM, thank God. There is a wealth of young talent available. And every TV report, water cooler, blog, and news report say the same thing. We want to see WWE push these guys. They’re fun, energetic, and the future. There was a time when youth ruled in WWE. Do you think we will ever get there again?
Rich: I guess youth ruled when Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon were in their twenties! I actually like some of the things they are doing now with a few of the younger guys. I hope that trend continues and increases.
Chris: As do I. Well, I got to get back to work. We'll do this again soon.
