Dot Net Water Cooler: Shore and Marv discuss the Fatal Fourway PPV, the new Raw mystery GM, NXT, and the World Heavyweight Championship picture
Jun 25, 2010 - 04:25 PM

Chris Shore and Marvin Hermanstyne hang out around the DotNet water cooler and discuss the topics of the week. Today, they discuss the Fatal Fourway PPV, the NXT beat down of Vince McMahon, the Raw mystery GM, and Smackdown's new champion.

Shore: Well Marv, I know you are taking a break for a week or two while you find that new bachelor pad you've always wanted, so let's get into the meat of it from the very beginning shall we? The Fatal Fourway PPV was this past Sunday, and I have to say, I was very disappointed as far as PPVs go. It felt more like a big version of Raw than something I had to pay for. Both major titles changed hands in the actual fatal fourway matches, with Sheamus taking home the WWE title, and Rey Mysterio claiming the World title. We'll talk about Rey here in a minute, but first, give me your take on Sheamus winning his second title and the PPV as a whole.

Marv: Ay yo! Now that I got the Scott Hall out of my system, lets focus on Sheamus. I LOVE this title change because a young champion has his time to shine on the flagship brand while the face of the company can focus on a midcard/non-title program. Sheamus has grown on me and he can be a bad ass champion throughout the fall or the rest of 2010. The only setback will be the return of Triple H. Once he comes back, expect Sheamus to drop the belt to Triple H which is mental torture as a wrestling fan.

But for the meantime, I would like to see Sheamus as the champion at the following events that I may attend: Raw on Labor Day in DC, Night of Champions in Chicago and possibly Summerslam in LA. But as far as the PPV in general, it was better than I expected because the Jericho and Bourne match stole the show. Bourne should be in the title picture early next year if they continue to push him like this. As I mentioned. The WWE title change was great, but the world title change--- it was basically politics and lack of star power which basically lead to the change. The Divas title doesn't really matter, so there is nothing to discuss here.

Shore: Don't get me wrong, the Jericho vs. Bourne match was fantastic. But the event didn't have a big time feel to it. It just felt like more WWE programming. I mean, it only went 2:35 or something, right? I would expect my money back except it's a tax write off. Quickly on the PPV before we move on, what do you think about these gimmick PPVs? We go from a fatal fourway gimmick to a Money in the Bank gimmick. Are these gimmicks OK, and if they are, should they stack two of them back to back like this?

Marv: Dude it was a 10+ minute match that should have been on Smackdown so we can commend it and get rave reviews for it. The rematch on Raw was good, but not as quality as the PPV match. Jericho is still the man and I will always respect and be a Jericholic because he's so talented.  As far as these gimmick PPVs they have to go. They are getting interest from the long time viewer like myself and they need to stick to traditional PPVs because these gimmicks will get old and they will kill buyrates. If you are going to do gimmick PPVs, have three PPVs max and do it on slow months that you know PPVs will be slow just to test them out.

Shore: Yeah, I agree. Two or three gimmick PPVs a year is more than enough. Moving on to the next night and a very newsworthy Raw. Let's start with the firing of Bret Hart and the naming of a new GM. OK, a new GM wasn't exactly named. Instead, it was announced that the GM was to remain anonymous and would Michael Cole and email. What do you think about this new GM, and who do you think it might be?

Marv: WWE has ran out out ideas, so they decided to have an secret GM...sigh. They are using this as a scapegoat to fool people. Jim Ross would be a good person to consider, but as long as its not a McMahon, I'm fine. Vince getting his ass kicked showed that he wasn't the GM, but this is wrestling so it could be a setup. I don't have the slightest idea who this GM will be. Who do you think is the mystery man?

Shore: I don't have a clue right now. It appears than plan to use this gimmick for a while, because nothing has happened to lead us down any roads. As far as the gimmick itself, there are some good things. There was no guest host this week, so maybe that gimmick is on its way out. And whoever it is, they are obviously behind, or at least in bed with, NXT, which is nice to know. And Bret Hart was terrible. Sorry pink and black fans, but it's true. He's not a great guy on the stick. Hell, he said WWF at least twice in his run. But I want to ask you about your, "out of ideas," remark. Do you, like I have heard speculated in the forum, believe that WWE is booking on the fly, as in booking while the show is going on, and using this gimmick to cover for it?

Marv: Bret saying WWF was on purpose if you ask me, LOL. I have always said that WWE has booked on the fly for the past year or so. If they did everything in advance, it would be a better product. Hell, it feels like interns be booking the shows because its so much filler bullshit to endure every week. This week's show has little to no filler, so that what made this week's show very good. The guest host thing should end around Halloween so the season can adjust to the product. But anyway, what do you think of NXT after two weeks?

Shore: I think they should have brought this group up first Seriously, a lot of these guys are better than most of the first season combined. I don't want to give away too much as my first rankings article will be out next Tuesday. What do you think so far?

Marv: Its OK, I'm still scratching my head at these names. Husky Harris? Mike McGillicutty?  WTF? These characters just seems so indy, Joe Mathieson should be covering NXT...I'm just saying. No disrespect towards Joe but come on. Percy Watson makes me cringe because its the watered down version of Orlando Jordan. The glasses are Steve Urkelish, and his personality is very flamboyant to the third power. Kaval is obviously the Daniel Byran of the season (oops...will I get fired for using someone who got future endeavored)? This season will be OK, but I don't have a lot of hopes for it unless one of the multi-generational stars wins...

Shore: Voting begins this week, so we will know soon. Alright, let's talk about our new champion. I have to admit, Rey winning is a head scratcher. Let's go through this a piece at a time, starting with Kane interfering. Of course we expected him to, but we didn't know which way it would go. He implied by his actions that CM Punk is the person responsible for Undertaker's attack. Do you think that will turn out to be the case, or is this just cover for the inevitable Kane turn?

Marv: A Rey Mysterio heel turn will be the worst things that can happen in this age of wrestling. If this was during the post Attitude era, fine. But right now, hell no. But if they say that its Kane, it would still be shit because no one wants to see a Mania 27 matchup with Kane vs. Taker. It would be garbage and we plan to be there, so hell no. If its C.M. Punk, it would be a money and loaded program for months to come. Hell it could be one of the best programs in a long time is they let Michael Hayes do his thing.

Shore: Yeah, I really hope this means that it is Punk, because Kane chasing them for a month or two, and then Taker coming back to finish them off would be fantastic. Plus, it would give us another chance for a short Brothers of Destruction run just before one or both retires. It would be perfect, but I will take anybody over Kane. What do you think about Jack Swagger dropping the title so soon?

Marv: Its freaking great because I can tell that WWE did NOT have faith in Swagger and he was clearly a transitional champion. Swagger gets above average X-Pac heat, so they needed to take the title off him. But putting on Mysterio is a political thing because Rey according to some reports is always bitching about something, therefore to keep him around they gave him anything he wants.

Shore: Please don't tell me they gave him this belt to shut him up. Please, please, please! The idea that they can't replace some of these guys is ridiculous. There is no reason to appease anyone, with the possible exceptions of Cena or Taker. Nobody else on the roster is too big to fail, or be fired. I think it's a terrible idea to take the belt off Swagger, and Rey is the worst person to give it to. With a ladder match gimmick coming up, Rey is the perfect person to have available. Now he's tied to a title match, and I bet you money it's Big Show he feuds with. Just what we need, another Rey vs. the Giant match. Haven't we seen that enough times? I'll let you go with one more question, now that Vince has been taken out by the NXT rookies, do you think Teddy Long will take advantage and mess with Drew McIntyre?

Marv: Dude, SD is heel heavy as hell so I don't see Show going back as a heel no time soon. Christian should be next for a world title shot. As far as someone messing with Drew, Justin Gabriel should be feuding with Drew because it just seems like the best program to get him involved. Everybody else in the NXT 7 just doesn't fit the program because everyone can be an effective heel.

Shore: Too bad the NXT 7 are stuck on Raw. I guess Vince is going to bury MyNetwork TV on the way out...
