Dot Net Water Cooler: WWE Elimination Chamber matches, and the future of ECW stars, NXT
Feb 11, 2010 - 02:22 PM |
Chris Shore and Marvin Hermanstyne hang out around the DotNet water cooler and discuss the topics of the week. Today, they discuss the Raw and Smackdown Elimination Chamber matches and where the current ECW stars will end up.
Marv: With the Elimination Chamber matches set for both brands, what are you thoughts of the participants?
Shore: I think the Smackdown Elimination Chamber has the best participants on paper. Undertaker, John Morrison, R-Truth, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio and CM Punk is certainly more intriguing than Sheamus, Triple-H, Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, John Cena, and Kofi Kingston. Though I think both have potential to be good matches.
Marv: They both have the potential, but the SD chamber match is more fresh because of the mixture of upper mid-card talent as opposed to Raw which contains the basic three guys and mid-carders that were thrown in there. What that being said, do you predict any title changes in either of these matches?
Shore: I think there has to be one in the Smackdown chamber to setup Jericho vs. Edge, and Taker vs. HBK. I don't think Sheamus loses here, but I could be wrong. The WWE Title picture bores me to death. There are no good babyfaces to chase him, and throwing Cena or Triple H at him stinks because he will get squashed. So yes, Taker drops to Jericho, and Sheamus retains. What do you think?
Marv:I agree 100 percent. The WWE title picture will always be boring until they build some established, main event babyfaces. With the way things are going in WWE, I wouldn't be shocked to see Sheamus have a long title run beyond Wrestlemania. I still don't like the fact that he is champion, but it freshens things up slightly. There are guys with a lot of money written all over them, but they are not getting pushed.
Shore: Sheamus is starting to grow on me. I noticed that Monday night. He does really well on the mic, and he's better than average in the ring. But he has no charisma. Fans boo him, but not passionately. He just doesn't connect. But who does connect with the fans is John Morrison. He claimed he broke his ankle on his Twitter page. We have confirmed that his ankle is, in fact, not broken, but our spoilers do say his match was stopped due to an injury. If he can't go at the EC, who do you think replaces him, and do you think this hurts or helps Morrison's chances of winning MITB at Mania?
Marv:It is sad and I'm sorry that I have to say this, but he is in the same boat as MVP. Both of the guys are meant to be heels, and if it means that one or both of these guys turn heel this year, there is a lot of money in both of these guys--especially MVP. Look at both guys, they both were secondary champions last year and what has happened since they lost those respective championships? They have either been jobbing or been on the losing end of feuds.
Shore: While I agree Morrison was a great heel, I have to point out that heels don't win with top rope finishers too often. Top rope moves, like Starship Pain, get a huge pop, so faces use them almost exclusively here in the States. But I think either he or Kofi Kingston were destined to take MITB this year, and of he can't go, I guess Kofi gets a run. Of the guys who are in the chamber matches, who do you most want to see win a title?
Marv:Ted Dibiase. I'm really buying this kid, yet every week he is booked to look weak. For example, why beat the crap out of him? People are going to lose interest in him and he really needs to be booked better. I think Ted is ready for a nice title run, but he will have to do it as an babyface because he just doesn't get a lot of heel heat. I'm not sure I'm ready for Kingston to be a world champion because he's not completely over with the crowd. He was red hot when he was feuding with Orton, but now, he has cooled off and is back in the mid-card shuffle.
Shore: It's no surprise that for me, it is, Morrison. The guy has star written all over him. They need to put him in a meaningful feud and let him find his character on the mic. That's all he needs to be a main event player for years to come.
Marv:Same could be said for other guys, but the booking has been atrocious overall. But that leads me into the next topic, with WWE's version of ECW being defunct pretty soon, who are the three ECW free agents that could make an huge impact on the three big brands? Who could you see being future endeavored?
Shore: I'm going to ignore Christian as an answer because he will be productive no matter where he lands. So I will say Regal, Archer, and Zeke. I think all of those guys have gimmicks and skill sets that work well together. Zeke is not the greatest in the ring, but he has shown that he can be carried to a good match. Archer has plenty of experience and just needs a chance to break out, and Regal has always been solid. As far as the dreaded future endeavoring, I could see Croft and Baretta, even though creative gave them nothing to work with. And I think Tiffany is done too. I know you have an opinion.
Marv: Christian is irrelevant because he will go to SD and become a top babyface (even though he's been teasing a heel turn). But as far as everyone else, Regal and Zeke ( I will count them as one, but WWE could use a good manager in Regal), Shelton Benjamin and Zack Ryder. As far as future endeavor bait, Tiffany, Crock and Boretta and Abe Washington. As beautiful as Tiffany is, she has to be one of the worst booked GMs in history. They are stereotyping her as a blonde who is running a "C" brand and she got rid of guys like Sheamus who is now the WWE champion? sigh.
Crock and Boretta seem too WWF Superstars-esque, with their greasy look and they are getting ZERO heat from the crowd. They bore the hell out of me, and I was shocked that they actually put on an semi-decent match this week on ECW. Finally, Abe Washington. What can I say? I'm not trying to knock the guy down, but he sucks. The material that is given to him is just bad. If it wasn't for Tony Atlas, this show wouldn't have lasted this long. Since ECW is having a series finale, he should too by having Mike Knox as a guest and Mike could use his beard and destroy the set. Or better yet, just have Cena squash him...
Shore: Fear the beard. I think Benjamin and Ryder are destined for midcard hell. Benjamin has had too many chances, and I just don't think "Woo woo woo" get's you to the main event. Abe is a bust, for sure. I have to admit though, I am interested to see what NXT will be.
Marv: Hopefully its something worth tuning into because that will be the only thing recording on my DVR on Tuesday nights. If its like Tough Enough, I would rather be like Peter Griffin and listen to "Surfing Bird" and annoying the hell out of people than watch NXT. But if the show features talent like Danielson and Low-Ki, then I will watch for certain. If anything, they should send some of the green Divas to work on the brand so they could brush up on their skills. Then hire me, as the Diva's booker so women's wrestling could actually have some money attached to it.
Shore:That's what I love about you Marv, your stunning ability to do anything. I agree, anything with Danielson and Low-Ki in it deserves a look.
