More on Jeff Hardy, Floyd Mayweather angle update, tonight’s AWA lineup
By Jason Powell Mar 11, 2008 - 09:00 AM

-Obviously, the big news of the day is Jeff Hardy's suspension. The word was reportedly going around backstage last night, so clearly the company had him drop the Intercontinental Title to Chris Jericho before implementing the suspension. This will lead to WrestleMania 24 changes, as one can only assume that Hardy was going to play a major role and perhaps even win the Money in the Bank ladder match.

-The WWE Smackdown/ECW tapings will be held tonight in Chicago, Ill. If you attend the show, please send a report to dotnet.jason@gmail.com. The only match being advertised for tonight’s live ECW show show is John Morrison and The Miz vs. Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney in an ECW Rules match. Check back tonight for my “Live Coverage” of the show beginning at 9:00 p.m. (CST).

Meanwhile, WWE is advertising Ric Flair vs. Edge and Curt Hawkins and Zach Ryder in a handicap cage match, and MVP vs. Batista in a no holds barred match for the U.S. Title.

-The elbow injury Floyd Mayweather suffered during Raw last night was not legitimate. The injury was part of the angle. I also suspect it was done to get the mainstream media talking, as I speculated about during my ”Live Coverage” of Raw. Most of the sportswriters who have talk about Mayweather's WrestleMania appearance have expressed concern over Mayweather getting hurt, so WWE gave them something to talk about.

-Today’s Poll: What was the best segment on Monday’s Raw?

-Most Dot Net readers believe we’re about to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson make his last WWE appearance for quite some time, if not ever, at the Hall of Fame ceremony. 39 percent of the voters in Monday’s poll predicted the HOF will be his last appearance unless his movie career bombs. 38 percent predict that he’ll continue to distance himself from WWE for at least the next five years. 19 percent believe he’ll make a live Raw appearance within the next five years to promote a movie. And only four percent of voters believe he’ll be back inside a WWE ring within the next five years.

Maybe I’ve watched one too many WWE shows over the years, but I’ve learned to never say never when it comes to pro wrestling. It wouldn’t shock me if this turns out to be his last appearance for five years, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up at WrestleMania 25 for a match with John Cena. OK, it was surprise me to some extent if he returned to the ring for one match, but I won’t rule it out completely despite the fact that he claims to have already wrestled his last match.

Daily Nuggets

-The following matches are scheduled to appear on tonight’s AWA on ESPN Classic show at midnight (CST): Yuri Gordyenko and Alexis Smirnoff vs. Bald Eagle and Sanchez, Greg Gagne vs. Tony Leoni, M. Richards vs. Col. DeBeers, Larry Zbyszko vs. Sweat, Leon White vs. Gartner. [Thanks to Dot Net reader Chris Cutter]

For those of you who may not make the connection, Leon White is better known to most wrestling fans as Vader. By the way, it doesn’t get much better than super jobber Tony Leoni. He didn’t get as much publicity as Jake “The Milkman” Milliman or Kenny “Sodbuster” Jay, but Leoni became as familiar with the lights above the AWA ring as anyone in the AWA.

-Time Warner Cable subscribers can access free WWE footage via On Demand. Dot Net reader Jim Hinson of Ventura, Calif. says if you go to “events” in the On Demand section and then hit “previews,” you’ll find several main events from past WrestleManias and a 60-minute preview for WrestleMania 24. I also found the WrestleMania 24 preview on Comcast’s On Demand service via the “PPV events: free previews” section.

-Kyle Wood, the “Super Fan” who appeared on “Hogan Knows Best,” and his friend Kyle have opened a Hulk Hogan fan site at 1HulkHogan.com.

-Sunny and Roxxi Laveaux are scheduled to appear on the March 21 NWSWrestling show in Bergenfeld, N.J. For more information, visit NWSWrestling.com.
