TNA Impact Wrestling live, Dot Net Weekly audio show, positive WWE Axxess story, Mickie James music appearance, Harley Race, Goldust, Balls Mahoney, Larry Sweeny notes
Apr 11, 2013 - 09:00 AM

By Chris Shore

-TNA Impact wrestling is live this week from Corpus Christi, Texas. The show is headlined by Jeff Hardy vs. Bully Ray in a Full Metal Mayhem match for the TNA Heavyweight Championship. Join me for live coverage of the show as it airs on SpikeTV at 7:00 p.m. CT.

-Dot Net Members will be listening to the Dot Net Weekly audio show later today. Jason Powell and I will discuss all the news of the week and look at where WWE goes now that WrestleMania is in the books. Members are already listening to the 58-minute Dot Net Countdown with Will Pruett and Jake Barnett, and the WrestleMania audio review with former WWE creative team member Seth Mates. Join us on the ad-free version of the website by signing up for membership now via the Dot Net Members' Signup Page.

-Dot Net reader Brian Ulrich wanted everyone to know that not all fans at WWE Axxess had a bad time and sent along the following account of his pleasant experience: "We attended Axxess on Sunday at 12:30. Of the signings we went to, the only one that showed up late was Sin Cara. We did see some of the other superstars take breaks during the signings, but I think that is to be expected.

The staff that was running the events seemed to be happy to answer any questions we had and kept us informed of how each area was being run or if there was going to be any delay. We were disappointed when we went to the Christian signing and the line was capped, but about an hour later ran into a staff member who told us where and when Christian would be leaving the signing at so we could at least see him. Not only did we see him, he took the time to sign for any kid that was there waiting. A very classy move when it was obvious he had to leave.

One of the other positives is that while waiting for signings, we got to watch NXT matches while waiting. I've been to other events where there have been celebrity signings, and you just wait in a line. Here at least there was some form of entertainment while waiting so you didn't feel like you were missing out. Overall, I was very happy with my experience and plan to attend when I get a chance in the future."

-TNA star Mickie James will perform before the Charlotte, Knights game this Friday night, as well as participating in a meet and greet at the ballpark. You can get more information and tickets at http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130410&content_id=44401386&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t494&sid=t494. [Thanks to Dot Net reader Carter Buffkin.]

-WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race turns 70 today. Considered one of the best wrestlers of all times, Race worked in the AWA, NWA, WWF, and WCW, and held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship eight times. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.

-Former WWE star Goldust (a/k/a Dustin Patrick Runnels) turns 44 today. The son of WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes made a brief return to WWE at the 2013 Royal Rumble, leading to speculation that he might have a WrestleMania match with his brother, Cody Rhodes. Unfortunately, this did not transpire, and even brother Cody's match was a last minute scratch on the Mania card.

-Former ECW star Balls Mahoney (a/k/a Jonathan Rechner) turns 41 today. The former three time ECW tag team champion was last seen in WWE in 2008 as part of the ECW brand. He has appeared only sporadically on the independent scene since then.

-The late "Sweet and Sour" Larry Sweeny (a/k/a Alexander K. Whybrow) was committed suicide on this date in 2011. Sweeny, who was considered one of the top managerial prospects on the independent scene, had battled bi-polar issues throughout his life. He was 30 years old at the time of his death.

-There are no pro wrestling shows scheduled for ESPN Classic.
