WWE Raw 20th Anniversary preview (correspondents needed), The Rock, Divas Title match, notes on Hacksaw Duggan, Mason Ryan, Shad Gaspard, Brian Blair, John Kronus, AWA on ESPN Classic
Jan 14, 2013 - 09:00 AM

By Jason Powell

-The WWE Raw 20th Anniversary show takes place tonight in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center. The Rock will be performing a concert, Eve will defend the WWE Divas Championship against Kaitlyn, and stars from the past are expected to appear. This will be the first non-holiday week show that WWE has not gone head to head with a pro or college football game since August, so ratings expectations are high. Join me for live coverage as Raw airs on USA Network tonight beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT.

-How could I forget? The only thing WWE advertised a week out is that the legendary Dr. Shelby will return for more Kane and Daniel Bryan silliness. Could he side with his fellow intellectuals Rhodes Scholars?

-We are looking for correspondents for tonight's WWE Raw show and Tuesday's WWE Smackdown taping in San Antonio, Texas. If you are going to either show and want to help, contact me right away at dotnetjason@gmail.com.

-Dot Net Members are listening to my 52-minute audio review of TNA Genesis. They will be listening to my review of WWE Raw later tonight. Join us on the ad-free version of the website by signing up for membership now via the Dot Net Members' Signup Page.

-WWE Hall of Famer "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan is 59 today. He was born on January 14, 1954. It wouldn't be too big of a surprise if Duggan were to celebrate his birthday in Houston tonight as a surprise for the 20th Anniversary special.

-WWE wrestler Mason Ryan (a/k/a Barri Griffiths) turned 31 on Sunday. He was born on January 13, 1982. He worked the most recent NXT taping for WWE.

-Former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard turned 32 on Sunday. He was born on January 18, 1981. Gaspard has done some acting since he left WWE.

-The late John Kronus (a/k/a George B. Calazzo) was born on January 13, 1969. The former Eliminators tag team member dies on July 18, 2007. His death was attributed to hearth failure resulting from an enlarged heart.

-Former WWE wrestler Brian Blair celebrated his 56th birthday on Saturday. He was born on January 12, 1957. Blair got involved in politics following his wrestling career. He also manages four Gold's Gyms, according to his Wikipedia page.

-The late Luna Vachon was born on January 12, 1962. She died on August 27, 2010 due to an accidental overdose.

-The AWA final returns to ESPN Classic tonight with its first show at 8:00 p.m. CT with the following listed matches: Mitch Snow vs. Washington, Tolas vs. Peterson, Steve O vs. Kevin Kelly (Nailz), Soldat Ustinov vs. Evans, Larry Zbyszko vs. Stevens, Curt Hennig vs. Greg Gagne for the AWA Title.

-The AWA will air a second show at 9:00 p.m. CT on ESPN Classic with the following matches listed: Midnight Express vs. Burke and Allen, Steve O vs. Rick Gatner, Wahoo McDaniel and D.J. Peterson vs. Tony Leone and Pete Sanchez, The Nasty Boys vs. Jarrett and Burke, Tommy Rich vs. Tom Stone, Boris Zhukov vs. Anderson. The show was taped or aired on May 28, 1989.
