WWE Smackdown taping with two title matches (correspondents needed), TNA ratings correction, Dot Net Audio, New Jack, NHL stars attend recent Raw show, AWA on ESPN Classic
Jan 3, 2012 - 09:02 AM |
By Jason Powell
-The first WWE Smackdown taping of 2012 takes place tonight in North Little Rock, Arkansas at Verizon Arena. The advertised television matches are Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show for the World Hvt. Championship, and Cody Rhodes vs. Booker T for the Intercontinental Title. We are looking for additional correspondents for tonight's Smackdown taping. If you are going to the show and want to help, contact me right away at dotnetjason@gmail.com.
-Voting for the 2011 Dot Net Awards (known as The Dottie Awards by some of our members) will begin later today. Unfortunately, you can't vote on our free apps, but the voting is open to everyone on the actual website. We'll kick things off today with the Best Tag Team of 2011 voting and we will continue to unveil new categories throughout the week. We will release the winners of the online voting and make our staff picks later this month.
-Correction: I mistakenly ran the wrong quarter-hour ratings for TNA Impact Wrestling yesterday. Simply put, this dummy put the quarter-hour ratings for the Christmas week show with the segments from last week. We do not have quarter-hour ratings for Impact yet, but I will run them when/if we get those numbers. I have removed the story to avoid further confusion and I apologize for the error. Thanks to Dot Net reader Andrae Jones for pointing out the error.
-WWE is also advertising Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry vs. Big Show in a Triple Threat match as the dark main event of the Smackdown tapings. We'll see if they follow through with that one given the TV main event that was announced after the initial advertising was released.
-Dot Net Members are listening to the 91-minute audio review of WWE Raw that Chris Shore and I recorded last night. Join us on the ad-free version of the website by signing up for membership via Prowrestling.net/amember/signup.php.
-Former ECW star New Jack (a/k/a Jerome Young) is 49 today. He was born on January 3, 1963.
-Pittsburgh Penguins players Matt Cooke (boo!!!!!) and James Neal attended the WWE live event in Pittsburgh, Pa. last week. Dot Net reader Earl Jackson noted that a Penguins coach was also in attendance.
-The following matches are listed for the 11:00 p.m. CT airing of the AWA on ESPN Classic: Pistol Pete vs. Ricky Rice, Dewey Robertson vs. Curt Hennig, Krusher Krugnoff and Soldat Ustinov vs. Ricky Morton and Wahoo McDaniel, Baron Von Raschke vs. Teijo Khan. The show was taped or aired on April 11, 1988.
