-Dana White, Brock Lesnar, Roger Huerta, and Sean Sherk were part of a press conference for a group of AP sports writers in Minneapolis on Thursday morning. White discussed the origins of the sport and made a big presentation in which he said he believes the sport will become bigger than the NFL and World Cup soccer. He didn't explain how the sport would become bigger than the World Cup, but he explained that the NFL isn't popular outside North America, whereas MMA is popular around the world. There were roughly 50-75 sports writers in attendance.
-Dot Net has learned that UFC has sold over 10,000 tickets for Brock Lesnar's homecoming show at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Aug. 9. White predicted that the event will sellout while telling the media members that UFC sells out everywhere it goes.
-White didn't have anything good to say about Elite XC's Kimbo Slice and stated that WEC Featherweight Champion Uriah Faber would beat Slice in an MMA fight.
-Although Matt Hardy has been moved to ECW, he will still face Edge in the main event of tonight's Smackdown. Triple H and Jim Ross will make their first appearances. However, they are saving Jeff Hardy and Mr. Kennedy's debuts for next week's show. I will be reviewing the show live tonight in place of Chris Shore.
-Ring of Honor launched a new video wire on Thursday. "Ok, we are tired about hearing that Ring Of Honor doesn't have any storylines or that it is too hard to keep up to date with ROH or that you can't watch every DVD," reads the press release. "So what we are doing is making it easier for you to follow ROH for FREE on the internet.
"The new ROH Video Wire is up now at ROHVideos.com. and it has so much topical stuff in it that it has to be two parts. You can watch it at ROHvideos.com or at Youtube at: Part One and Part Two.
-Phil Strum of the Poughkeepsie Journal interviewed filmmaker Chris Bell regarding the movie Bigger, Stronger, Faster. I have not seen the film, but I have yet to read a negative review from anyone in the wrestling media. You can check out the interview at PojoSlam.blogspot.com.
-The following matches are listed for tonight's AWA on ESPN Classic show: Midnight Express squash, Steve O vs. Rick Gatner, Wahoo McDaniel and D.J. Peterson squash, Nasty Boys squash, Tommy Rich squash, Boris Zhukov squash. The show was taped on May 28, 1989.
