Dot Net Awards: 2012 Best Tag Team
Feb 8, 2013 - 03:00 PM

Dot Net readers voted on a variety of 2012 awards throughout the month of January. The following are the results of our poll for Best Tag Team. Thanks to everyone who took part in the voting. You can check out the past winners in our Awards section.

(1) Kane and Daniel Bryan: 47 percent
(2) Christopher Daniels and Kazarian: 15 percent
(3) Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow: 6 percent
(4) Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas: 5 percent
(5) Mark Briscoe and Jay Briscoe: 5 percent
Others: 22 percent

Will Pruett's Thoughts: This essentially comes down to two comedy acts, who became better than comedy acts over the year. The first is Kane and Daniel Bryan, who had some of the most memorable TV segments on WWE TV in the last year. They also had one of the best matches of the year at TLC against The Shield. On the other side is Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels and Kazarian) who were involved in one of the worst angles of the year (Claire Lynch), but also had some of the best matches and most entertaining TV segments on Impact. For me, Bad Influence edge out Kane and Bryan, but just barely.

Ryan Kester's Thoughts: Tag team wrestling definitely shifted in 2012. WWE stepped up with their division, TNA fell by the wayside, and I continue to be unable to reliably view ROH enough to comment on their product. For my money Team Hell No, Daniel Bryan and Kane, take the award. They were consistently entertaining in whatever WWE threw at them, and their chemistry both in the ring together and outside the ring in skits and promos is something I will remember years from now. Bad Influence, Kazarian and Christopher Daniels, had a similarly great year, but the Claire Lynch story went on for so long and so terribly that it really hindered their year.

Jason Powell's Thoughts: WWE paid more attention to its tag team division in 2012 while TNA's once proud tag division fell apart. It's hard to argue with Kane and Bryan, and that's coming from someone who enjoys the hell out of the Daniels and Kazarian team. So much of Team Hell No's appeal is what's taken place outside the ring, though they were part of the great TLC match with Ryback facing The Shield. Haas and Benjamin taking fourth place is a legacy vote not unlike Jeff Saturday getting the Pro Bowl nod when he wasn't even good enough to start for his own team by the end of the year. Haas and Benjamin had their moments earlier in the year, but they didn't crack my personal top five.

Chris Shore's Thoughts: What a difference a year makes. Last year this time, ROH had a strong tag division and everyone else was just playing around. Now WWE might have the best tag division (even though it still stinks), ROH's division is weak but savable, and the best tag team comes from the group with the weakest division, TNA. Even though they didn't have much to work with Christopher Daniels and Kazarian were the most entertaining, both in and out of the ring, than any other group this year. Kane and Daniel Bryan get an honorable mention, but their silliness got too silly at times, and, save for their TLC match with The Shield, their in-ring work has been nominal. I don't understand the sudden shift to the singles ranks for Daniels and Kazarian (especially when they replaced them with two singles stars), but the act continues to draw great heat wherever they go.

Jake Barnett’s Thoughts: Were there better tag teams in terms of technical wrestling than Team Hell No (or Team Frienship if you’re cool)? I think you could probably make an argument for that. But I don’t think there was any team that managed to entertain me more this year than Team Hell No. I think we’re on the waning period of this act right now, but for a few months it was hard to find a better source of entertainment on WWE TV than their segments. The tag division unfortunately took a back seat to their drama and comedy, but let’s be honest, it was still a step up from where it had been.
