Dot Net Awards: 2011 Best Female Act

Dot Net readers voted on a variety of 2011 awards throughout January and early February. The following are the results of our poll for Best Female Act. Thanks to everyone who took part in the voting. You can check out the other winners and winners from past years in the Awards section.

Ryan Kester's Thoughts: Although she was only around briefly at the beginning of the year, I have to give the nod for best female act to Kharma. Her run was cut short due to her pregnancy, but she had the world abuzz with her attacks on her fellow female wrestlers and her absence left a void in WWE's women's division that creative seemed unable to figure out how to fill. Honorable mention must go to Vickie Guererro, who is still one of the best heels in wrestling. Guererro played a much more subdued role than she has in previous, years, however, which made it easy to give the nod to Kharma.

Will Pruett's Thoughts: Beth Phoenix – This was a start and stop division for all of wrestling. WWE’s made me optimistic with the debut of Kharma and the return of Gail Kim to TNA was quite the positive step. However, meaningless Diva’s title matches and bikini car washes (not to mention attempted murder in a pool) also compromised the good that was done. Beth Phoenix wins this one because she was consistent and finally was pushed like a meaningful act.

Jake Barnett's Thoughts: The Divas division in WWE was a bag of hurt this year, aside from a few bright spots from Beth Phoenix and Kharma. I guess you could say the same about the TNA Knockouts, but I will say that TNA has delivered far better matches on average than we normally see from the WWE Women. That being said, I don't think the best female act of 2011 was an active wrestler. The woman who continues to be the most entertaining of all is Vickie Guerrero. All the tasteless fat jokes WWE does aside, Vickie continues to get one of the biggest reaction of any WWE heel, and she also continues to be the only credible manager in WWE. When Dolph Ziggler ascends into the main event scene permanently, he'll likely peel away from Vickie, but when he does I hope people don't lose sight of how much she did to get him there.

Chris Shore's Thoughts: 2011 Was not a good year for women in wrestling as a whole. The Knockouts division, once the jewel of the TNA crown, died a miserable death. The Divas had a short moment of hope before Kharma's reproductive system banished the group back to Siberia for nine months (plus recovery time). Even ROH dropped "The Queen of Wrestling" Sara Del Rey when Sinclair bought the company. That said, since this is best female "act" and not "wrestler," I agree with the readers that Vickie Guerrero was the top act. Her year wasn't as impressive as 2010, to be sure, but she was the most consistent lady throughout the year.

Jason Powell's Thoughts: Vickie plays her part extremely well and continues to be one of my favorite stories in pro wrestling. No one expected anything like this from her when she started as a television character, but she's been a consistent heat magnet for years now. I can't argue with the readers, but I must say that Kharma was well on her way to winning the award based on her early WWE work. I loved the way she was introduced and the Divas division was a huge letdown without her. I'm surprised Karen Jarrett didn't get more reader love for her hysterical TNA performances.
