Dot Net Awards: 2010 Best Tag Team
Feb 19, 2011 - 10:03 AM |
Dot Net readers voted on a variety of 2010 awards throughout January and February. The following are the poll results of the Best Tag Team category.
(1) Motor City Machine Guns - Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley: 38 percent
(2) Beer Money - James Storm and Robert Roode: 18 percent
(3) The Kings of Wrestling - Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli: 14 percent
(4) Vladimir Kozlov and Santino Marella: 10 percent
(5) Big Show and The Miz: 5 percent
Other votes: 15 percent
Chris Shore's Thoughts: There is no question that the tag team of 2010 is the Kings of Wrestling. Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero elevated their game this year, earning them the longest title reign in ROH history. The KoW put on great matches this year against The Briscoe Brothers and The World's Greatest Tag Team, and will set the bar for tag team matches on February 26 when they face the All Night Express. They were the tag team of the year, and it's not even close.
The Motor City Machineguns finishing first is indicative of one thing: most people don't know about the Kings. Don't get me wrong, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelly are a spectacular tag team, and they had the best year of any tag team in the top two promotions to be sure. And they would placer second in my list. But having watched MCM throughout the year, and going back to check out KOW stuff from earlier in the year, I truly believe if more readers knew about the Kings, they would have run away with this award.
Jason Powell's Thoughts: I disagree with the readers and Chris Shore. My vote for best tag team goes to James Storm and Robert Roode. The Guns are great, but I don't think they've reached their full potential in TNA just yet. The Kings are excellent, and I think a number of the ROH tag teams would have rated higher if more voters were exposed to their awesome tag division.
It amazes me that TNA has two of the best tag teams in the world, yet they failed to deliver the simple babyface team (Guns) chasing the heel champions (Beer Money) in 2010. Rather, they put the belt on The Guns and had Beer Money chase them. Only in TNA. Hey, at least they have tag team wrestling, though. That's more than WWE officials can say with a straight face. Santino and Kozlov? Really, people?
