Dot Net WWE News: Source disputes reports that Batista refused to put over Daniel Bryan
Online reports were published over the weekend indicating that Batista declined to put over Daniel Bryan in a match at the Payback pay-per-view. Furthermore, reports suggested that Batista would be finishing up for the time being at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on Sunday or at Tuesday's Smackdown taping.
A source with knowledge of the situation disputes that Batista refused to put over Bryan. "WWE wants that story out, but it's all twisted," the source told Prowrestling.net on Monday night. "(Batista) would do five jobs for Bryan. They've f---ed him in money, booking, broken promises (relating to his) schedule, and promoting his (outside projects).
"Had that not happened, he would be around until late June, but because Vince (McMahon) f---ed him, he's not, so they dragged Daniel Bryan into this to vilify Batista. Daniel is beloved and a martyr so he benefits, but it has nothing to do with jobbing. They've twisted. It's classic Vince. Look at Ultimate Warrior and SummerSlam, Bret Hart in Montreal. (Vince) puts out his narrative. There are always two sides."
Powell's POV: Online reports stated that Batista objected to doing the job for Bryan because of their size difference and how it would look when he is about to be featured in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie. Whether that was his argument or a twisted version of the story as the source suggests, it does seem very odd that he would be concerned about jobbing to Bryan considering that he put him over during the high profile WrestleMania 30 main event.
I followed up with the source this morning and was told that the situation remains tenuous and that Vince McMahon is now more involved in attempting to work through the situation with Batista. At this point, there's no official word as to how long Batista intends to work, so it's still possible he will stick around through the end of June. All signs point to The Shield facing Evolution at next month's Payback pay-per-view, so it appears he will be sticking around for that match.
I did ask why Bryan vs. Batista was not booked instead if Batista is sticking around at least through Payback. I was told that the feeling is that it should have been a multi pay-per-view program between the two and that was unlikely to happen due to Batista's movie promotional schedule. It is worth noting that WWE actually has two pay-per-views in June, so if Batista intends to be around through the end of that month, there could have been a multi-pay-per-view match program between him and Bryan.
In related news, there continues to be talk that Sheamus could eventually be added to Evolution at some point, so it's possible the faction will be in play once Batista departs for his promotional work. For that matter, Sheamus could conceivably be inserted into Batista's slot if things take a turn for the worse with Batista and the company between now and Payback on June 1.
